hello, i just stumbled on your video here. was watching it and i heard you say you use stone coat resin and that you only have about 15 minute working time. well i use that same product and i am in love with it but i must let you know, you actually have a 45 minute to 1 hour working time with this product. yes, and that's the beauty of it. just thought i would let you know. there have been times i had acrylic pours lined up to be resined and made a 6oz batch and by the time i got finished it was indeed 1 hour later and it was just starting to thicken up but still workable. gr8 video :)
@notebookluvr5 жыл бұрын
A lot of things can change the working time. Heat and humidity can affect resin in different ways. If you live in a cooler, dry area, or use it in a cool environment, it will affect your working time. Usually warmer areas cause resin to cure more quickly. So what is true for you, may not be the same for someone else.

Love your videos. Just wondering is that regular paint that you are mixing in with the resin? Does that cause the resin to cure differently?
@thefrugalresinista5 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! Yes, I use craft acrylic paints. You just have to make sure to use a 10 part resin to 1 part paint ratio or even a bit less. Then your resin won't get messed up. It does speed up your curing time a bit and gives you less time to work.

My mind is "blowing up" at the moment. I do stain glass pieces and these would be great to include! Next moment...Awards, a simple coaster. Any suggestions on colors for 1st-4th place (blues, reds, yellows, and the dreaded whites?)
@thefrugalresinista5 жыл бұрын
Ooohh! This would look lovely in stained glass! If you want your colors to really sparkle, I would definitely use the Testors paints and the Pearl Ex powder that I used in the video. There's a link to it in the description. That will make even your whites really shiny and pearly. Good luck!

Do you have to use torch or does it just speed it up?
@lorisalomon90695 жыл бұрын
Your work is beautiful. Are the colored paints mixed with resin or just the paint gets poured and the resin on top. You have paint in cups already so no sure. Thank you
@thefrugalresinista5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! My acrylic paint is mixed in with my resin. Resin doesn't "love" acrylic paint but if you make sure to stick to a 10 parts resin to 1 part paint or less, you shouldn't have trouble. It only takes a bit of paint to color the resin. If you use too much, your resin will get stringy and not cure correctly.
@susanwaterspaints14125 жыл бұрын
can you use a heat gun instead of a torch? it isnt optimal i know. but no torch right now...
@thefrugalresinista5 жыл бұрын
Sure! When you turn it on, have it far away from your resin and move in slowly. You don't want to blow the resin everywhere! My torch just died so I'm in the same boat!

I went out and purchased a silicone mat and my hot glue isn't sticking to it. Once it cools it moves which normally would be good but not in this case. Any ideas?

So I have to do a pretty thick line and make sure not to bump it at all. I do my geode shape and once it is done, I go back and do a line around the interior to seal it a bit more. But I have bumped it before and had to re-glue. Frustrating!

Hi! Small question? Is there a sealer you recommend for the edges to ensure the copper / gold or whatever paint we used on the edges doesn't come off later on?
@thefrugalresinista5 жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks for watching! I don't typically seal the paint since it is enamel but when I do for projects that will be out in the elements, I just paint on one more thin layer of clear resin. That seems to seal the best. Hope that helps!

@thefrugalresinista5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I don't seal the edges. Enamel paint is supposed to be waterproof. I did look it up at one point and read that it will even seal wood for you but that if you are going to leave it outside in the elements, it may be best to seal the top with something else.
