We have a couple bait shops here in New Smyrna Beach, Florida but 38 Live Bait has the best and I believe freshest bait at reasonable prices of any around. Plus, the ladies who get your bait are quick and generous. They know you are wanting to get out and start fishing.
You can either drive up and get your bait or they have a dock and you can launch your boat and pull into the dock and get your bait. Perfect..

Thanks for the compliment rylan. This time of the year the sheepshead are pretty much scattered and gone. But there are still a few that hang around the bridges all year. Near the end of the season I will slowly drop a fiddler down beside the pylons and often get bites half way down. However, 90% of the time I drop to the bottom and raise the bait up about 18". Around now, the Mangrove Snapper are starting to move in and you can also catch some small ones off the bottom. Good luck...

Hi Brian.. things change don't they? From what I understand, 38 Live Bait has been sold a couple of times since I made this video. I haven't bought any live bait from them in probably a year for various reason. Maybe since you gave tehm a good report, I'll try them again.

38 Live Bait is a good bait shop. Every time I go out at Ponce Inlet we always get our bait from there. Nice people & great bait.

When fishing bridges and other structures like bridges, what depth do you fish at? How do you find the depth the fish are at? Here the bridges that I have tried are all like 30 ft deep and I never catch the sheepshead because I never know what depth to fish at. I thought you would be the perfect guy to ask.

How do you keep your boat from getting chewed up from the barnacles on the pilings when you fish so close to the bridge? Love your videos!

+Three Swords .. Well TS, I have stopped a lot of my bridge fishing because of that very problem. I have a pretty chewed up rub rail PLUS when big boats come thru the bridge they create a huge wave and that will really mess your boat up. But, if I go back to the bridge, I will line the outside of the boat rail with big bumpers so I don't have to worry about damage and can focus on Sheepshead.

Hi Derick.. I pretty much cook all my fish the same way. Because I am a senior citizen, I very much limit my cholesterol intake so use very little oil. I cook them as fillets on the top of the stove HOT and with Lowry's salt, a few drops of lemon juice, a sprinkle of Old Bay and some water to pour in the pan to make steak to help cook. Pretty boring and there are "tastier" ways to cook them but my mission is catching. Way down the 'fun' list is cleaning and cooking. Also, I give most of my Sheepshead away either to the food pantry at my church or to shore fishermen who are struggling to catch a few.

Salty I absolutely love the videos but im deeply confused by something I see in all your bottom fishing videos. Especially with sheepshead fishing........with such a finicky hard to catch bait stealer.........why do you directly tie a big ole clunker weight to the line? I always use a weight that allows the line to run through it so I can feel it and let it run with the line without it feeling me. Im not suggesting I know better because I look up to your videos. But help me understand this strategy if you dont mind.

+doogyjay1 .. 'mornin' doogy, where I live, close to Ponce Inlet, the currents can truly be brutal. What I 'used' to do is anchor up in some underwater rocks and let out maybe 50' of rode and fish for Sheeps. All of our structure, ALL of our structure along our waterway to the Inlet is man made pylons or boulders or piers with very strong currents. It took me about a year to figure out that using an egg sinker with a swivel and mono line was WASTING the sinker, swivel and leader because about every 3rd drop, the line would be carried into the rocks or Gobies would drag the bait into the rocks and I would have break-off after break-off. I soon discovered that Sheepshead DON'T CARE if the braid is tied directly to a 1/0 or 2/0 hook, they are just interested in the crab on the hook. So I started using a 2 oz to 4 oz bank sinker (depending on current) and not only did my hook-up ratio improve, my gear loss ration went down. Of course, when I fish in calm waters with calmer currents like off shore, I use an egg sinker and leader. But, where you live, you might want to try a test and see if you have the same experience I had with tying your hook directly to the braid when fishing for Sheeps...
