I had an instructor once tell me his way of practicing a revolver reload. At his range though. Have your reload in your pocket or wherever you carry the speedloader. Shoot your 5 or 6 rounds at about 5 to 7 yards. Then without looking at your revolver { he would close his eyes on his range] empty the spent casings, acquire your reload, load them and then shoot those rounds. He said this was a fairly realistic situation in a defensive shooting because you never want to lose sight of your opponent. Of course I brought up the "peripheral vision" situation, and he thought that was not something you can truly depend on in a real defensive scenario. We had lots of discussions about that. 1

Minor correction- that is not a shrouded hammer, it's internal and is double action only. Models 638 and 649 are shrouded hammer which still allow the hammer to be cocked for single action operation while covering the hammer to prevent it from snagging on clothing when carried in a pocket.

Revolver is definitely a different shooter. The way it points point of impact when sighting thr target. I've found with certain revolvers you need to bury or raise the front sight. Lastly it's real easy to pull a shot because the trigger press is heavier compared to semis especially the clip 1911 trigger
@matthewrobinson43239 ай бұрын
I've found that with me at least, the wood grips work better than the polymer grips. That's because they let you grip higher up on the frame. I carry my m 206 in my rotation, and love it. When I first started carrying a snub about 10 years ago, the safest place you could be was directly in front of me at arm's length. It took me about 3 of 4 boxes of ammunition to figure out how to shoot it. Hang in there. You can do it. As to the 1911: if you miss with x 1911, you were obviously firing a warning shot. 😂

I just started using wadcutter for the first five in my airweights and follow up loads semi wadcutters. Penetration is more important in a short barrel revolver than expansion which rarely happens. I want to hit an organ deep so I'm opting for penetration and accuracy. I have semi auto's and also shoot them pretty regularly to keep skill level with those as well. I stopped using plus p in the short barrel revolvers' Great video as usual .

You said it! Because of Covid/distribution snafus wadcutters aren't even being produced right now. I bought a S&W 442 Thompson Center .38 +P and man! it is a bitch to practice with. For awhile all I could buy was the +P. No thanks! I'm waiting for wadcutters to eventually come back for all the reasons you stated plus easier on the wrist. I still love it because at the end of the day it is still one tool of many. It's useful in certain carry situations and dress styles. It will get the job done if it has too!
@johnochicago84572 жыл бұрын
@@harperhellems3648 Do you have the stock grips that came with the 442. I changed those out for Hogue Bantam Boot Grips. They look the same but the material and grip are incredible. I've used a lot of plus p including Gold Dot and FBI load and shot those with not too much difference in recoil compared to standard 38. I would not recommend plus p for two reasons: Beats the gun up and won't enable you to get rounds on target as quickly which is much more important. Accuracy first and penetration second with those 2" or less barrels. Wadcutters do penetrate and so do semi-wadcutters.
@harperhellems36482 жыл бұрын
@@johnochicago8457 Funny you asked. The 442 I got came with Crimson Trace grip sights. I somehow doofused out and sheared off a piece of the very small adjustment tool in the elevation hole. I had to take off those grips and mail them back to Crimson Trace. Those guys were great! They promptly fixed my F up and even included new batteries. In the meantime, I'd installed those Hogue boot grips. Those are great too! I've used 2 different Hogue grips on a Ruger LCR .22 and love them. You're right about +P. During Covid that's all they had here in Central Virginia. They laughed last time I asked when wadcutters we're coming back. Like ratshot, manufacturers aren't prioritizing production of these kind of things yet. I'm waiting. Wadcutters seem ideal for every situation.

@@harperhellems3648 there are also Tamers made by Hogue that use a cushion under the grip that will buffer much of the recoil. It's located where the web of your thumb and forefinger would be. It makes the grip larger somewhat but is still easy to conceal.

I'm getting 11 inch groups at 25 yards with my 2" pocket .38 revolver. One hole at 5 yards. I wouldn't be able to do that with your "technique". You need all the constriction you can get if you want the gun to stay rock set in your hand and not flip. I'd really like to know what your grip has to offer that a strong, fast, and accurate cross thumb grip doesn't have.

Ugh, another Fudd who failed to address the main point as to why people who shoot revolvers tend to have poor aim. The answer is that they don't know how to use a notched front sight. What ends up happening is that revolver newbies tend to align the front and rear sights "perfectly level" like they're shooting an automatic, but this is not what you're supposed to do. The notches are meant for quick estimation as to how you're supposed to hold your gun depending on how far away from you the target is. If the target is close (less than 10 yards), then you can align the front and rear sights "perfectly level". But as the distance between you and the target increases, you need to increase the amount of notches on the front sight to compensate for the drop of the bullet. This is apparent by simply looking up reviews of revolvers on gun websites. The majority of 1-star ratings complain that the revolver "shoots low". The reality is that the user has no clue how to shoot a revolver.
