I heard somewhere that Roger Corman wanted to do his own version of King Kong. I even heard that someone wanted to do a remake of Son of Kong. It was meant to be a sequel to the 1976 remake of King Kong and also to King Kong Lives.

this had a very rich history I some of the things you mentioned were used by Peter Jackson - Triclonius (the Triceratops like creature) may have inspired the Ferrucutus (a large fictional ceratopsian) that attacked the sailors in the 05' remake - The Giant Eel and Centipede were both used in the Video Game (The Centipedes were a constant enemy while the Giant Eels are a boss that Kong has to fight in his lair) - the giant Scorpion thing was possibly reworked into the Insect pit of the 2005 movie I also think that the Giant Prehistoric Vulture was a nod to the giant Bird Ookondoru that Kong was going to fight with in the cancelled Kong vs Ebirah movie by Toho

Concerning the Vulture being a reference to Ookondoru, considering Jim Danforth (who conceived the idea) kind of hates Godzilla or any movie featuring men in rubber monster suits, the reference (had it gone through) would've been completely unintentional. Danforth was never really happy with his alternatives for the Pterodactyl/Pteranodon anyway.

Universal did put forth its KING KONG remake in 2005. Directed by Peter Jackson, it starred Jack Black as Carl Denham, Naomi Watts as Ann Darrow, and Adrien Brody as Jack Driscoll. Terrific movie even though it was over three hours long, and the Oscar-winning visual effects were spectacular. The remake was a box office smash.

Cool video. The changes of The Legend of King Kong were transferred to King Kong 2005 (like the fictional Dinosaurs). Also this would've been a cool movie over the 1976 version (no offense Jack, I know you like the 76 Kong film I respect your opinion). But at least King Kong 2005 came out and that 1998 King Kong would've been cool, in fact I made a video about it. This was a cool video! Looking forward to your next one.

Well, this was over a year ago now, but I'm glad my posts about Legend of KK managed to inspire you to go the extra mile and fill in the info blanks that I didn't cover. :) As for the film itself, considering '76 is my favorite version of the story, I don't know if this is too much of a great loss. I wish Jim Danforth had been willing to compromise somewhat and provide Dino with some stop-motion, but it is what it is.

We should have gotten both films mentioned 2 different King Kong remakes one based off the movie and the other based on the book out at the same damn time it would have increased Kong's already growing popularity this idea should come back No I've got it combine all the Kongs into one character and make the ultimate King Kong movie take plot points from the original and the 1976 (I think) remake and combine their plots together, take shit from the book, give Kong that lightning makes him stronger ability, put every monster from every King Kong film in there, it'd be great

I wonder if someone where to do their own king Kong remake, could they do an ice age/prehistoric mammal themed skull Island? I would have Kong fight a giant saber tooth tiger, a giant white egale, and maybe a giant polar bear in a ice water fight while Ann's panicking on ice. I would also give Kong some proto caveman intelligence like he knows how to make a fire, showing him kind of blurring the line between man and beast.
