(Same stream as Ocelot saying "meow" and the "nice shoes" moment, iirc) All I'm sayin' is, it's possible Vinny created the seed for the Skibidi Toilet meme in that very moment.

Honestly I watched Skibidi Toilet after hearing about it a few days ago and while I have no idea how the hell it gets 80 million views, I can see the appeal. Just a silly gmod shitpost that slowly turns into a war with each side escalating the methods each time. I feel like it's very much in line with 2007 "randumb" humor. Oh and the biggest thing it has going for it is that the episodes are usually less than 30 secods so it's over before you know it. Edit: Ok I wrote this before watching the segment, I now understand why everyone is confused and horrified. Would you believe its actually not nearly as chaotic as all the insane ads and fake games make it seem? I mean it's still a dumb shitpost, but this was just madness.

I came here after actually watching the whole(?) thing out of curiosity, and I concur, but I'll add what surprised me about it: it IS actually fairly *cool*. Like, yes, it's a series about literal toilet meme aliens. But visually... they do a lot with it. The camera(/etc) dudes have cool designs! Machine head robots are a relatively common trope for a reason (Lord Canti from FLCL, that species from Saga, etc) and the large robots are interesting too. And when I was halfway through the whole thing and started to get used to the fact I was watching Gmod character heads in toilets flying around, I started finding their designs... actually appealing too? They play into the cyber-body horror aspects more as it goes on and you start to stop seeing it as a meme and more as some techno-abomination the likes you'd see in Fallout or Warhammer or whatever else; after a while, even the song stops being a song, it's just presented as their own unnerving alien language. And I never knew there were so many ways you could put weaponry on a flying toilet... The plot is basic and the pacing is terrible, ultimately, but it's one of those stories that are told so earnestly that you can't help but feel engaged. That's why it works with kids. It's the same as any kinda crummy long-term shonen, or wrestling. For me, it was Kingdom Hearts and I'd imagine everyone has a piece of media like this as part of their childhood. I think it's not surprising.

I'm getting up there in my years, but I still find some entertainment value in the Skibidi Toilet series. When I saw the first episode I was like "What? This is what people are so worked up about? Are all of these just different remixes of the same video?" but then I skipped to episode 39 (didn't see the shorts since they're in a different section, and thought the jump in number was a joke to make it seem like a long-running series) and became intrigued the more I watched. I think it's because there is a definite sense of bewilderment from how nonsensical it all is, but there *is* a narrative to it, so there is both bewilderment, but then also understanding. Plus the gradual escalation of the powers at play makes for a genuinely interesting watch. It is ironic though, the series depicts a world of people trying to fight back against the invasion of an obnoxious, nonsensical, and irritating meme, yet it has become that very thing outside of the story. TL;DR The series on its own is genuinely kind of intriguing if only to entertain yourself for about 10 minutes (if even that), but all this knockoff mobile and PC game garbage is irredeemable as usual.

I feel there's a difference between this and "Just Gmod videos like when we were young" when it gets to the point where it's content farmed to hell and back, and the series gets hundred millions of views a day. Playing as Painis Cupcake years after his creation in Freak Fortress kind of pales in comparison to the viral madness surrounding Skibidi. Vinny is right though, it's going to be funny to see unlicensed Half Life 2 character merch at every fair in the near future.

On the one hand, I get it cause I loved lore (and still do) of online creative stories and blooming communities as a thing to being people together and create worlds with. And this is way less disturbing that a ton of fetish, violent, or other super awful content constant broadcasted to kids. I remember stiff like Vagineer and Panis Cupcake in the past people went crazy over. On the other hand, why is it toliet people? Why is the powers scalling never stopping? How is the creator going to even end it? HOW IS IT GETTING 80 MILLION VIEWS IN ONE VID?! And it came out of nowhere?! Like, one day, toilet!

@Odyanii Жыл бұрын
I'd say it's partly KZbin Kids. Saw someone explaining why random seemingly nothing clips of Mario games can get like 10m views on Kids once and it was basically like: Because of how that whole ecosystem/algorithm works videos are particularly prone to going viral there. Since a huge amount of content is being culled out for being inappropriate, anything that does get through has a way better chance of getting recommended than on regular old KZbin. Then you add that a lot of parents leave KZbin Kids autoplaying for kids to keep them busy, who are probably not going to bother skipping anything that even mildly holds their interest, and you get a self reinforcing algorithm where it gives a video, says "wow the whole video was watched I should recommend it more" and away we go. Add in kids actually liking it and seeking out more and that's how you go from random 3m view video to 50m etc.
@chelsicalhoun6266 Жыл бұрын
@@Odyanii that is a little sad and a "society moment," but at the same time, it is still better than most content kids are exposed to. The way the algorithm can just make something culturally defining out of nowhere is insane (okay maybe not culturally defining yet for the toilets, but we will see). I don't watch Mike's streams anymore, but he does finger family stuff on Friday and that stuff was aimed at actual babies was just complete derangement. I wish we had actual "kids only" spaces on the internet again.
@Odyanii Жыл бұрын
@@chelsicalhoun6266 Definitely, the loss of child only spaces on the net I think is part of why we're getting all these people being weirdly angry about these dumb videos being popular. Used to be that an adult on the net wouldn't really see all the silly nonsense that kids would get up to in their fragmented communities. Now though everyone is in the same space and there's no way to prevent spillover.
@lasarousi Жыл бұрын
This feels like an AR game but children are incapable of working together and solving an internet mystery so it has no ulterior reason to exist but be monetized. Instead they just PLAY PRETEND. That's why it's so viral, it's based on a thing that makes sense to make full of new lore. Except that lore is there for absolutely no purpose but keep kids coming with no end goal in mind. Which is fine, as a kid you don't have end goals, just being entertained is the end goal.
