We were approached on our 52' cat last year 150 miles offshore of Venezuela on our way to Panama by a small skiff at a shift change in the morning...I was brushing my teeth looking out the porthole window and had to rub my eyes that I couldn't believe that small of boat was out there. I woke up the rest of the crew and the small boat came in behind us about 3/4 of a mile back then paced us at 10kts for about 15 minutes before turning and going even farther north. Definitely had the "Spidey senses" tingling & thankfully was nothing...but it's good to look like there's a whole bunch of people on board and you recognize them. No mothership was showing up on AIS either. Be safe out there!

I watch several other KZbin channels with people cruising the world. And I’m shocked how many times they’re on watch all alone and they don’t have a vest on. The sushi looks absolutely incredible. The freeze your seafood is only a thing in the USA. It’s actually a requirement for anything served raw. I ate tuna on a boat in the pacific right after it was caught. The 3 day part in the refrigerator before it goes bad is true. If you’re going to keep it longer than that freeze it.

I am very happy that you loved the beautiful islands of Venezuela, which are undoubtedly safe places, since you visited the Aves archipelago. Here I leave you information about the Isla de Aves shipwreck. In the wreck of Las Aves in 1678, between 12 and 15 French ships were sunk. This event was one of the largest maritime disasters of the time. The shipwreck occurred when the French fleet, led by the flagship Le Terrible, was heading towards the Las Aves coral reef. The Dutch fleet had maneuvered into the island's central lagoon to lure the French, making the archipelago look like part of Bonaire. As the French approached the reef, Le Terrible could not avoid it. Captain d'Estrées ordered guns to be fired to warn the rest of the fleet, but the other ships thought they were being attacked by the Dutch and headed towards them. Finally, all the ships in the fleet hit the reef and sank. It is estimated that 500 sailors lost their lives. A big hug from Venezuela and may God bless you always.

There are no pirates iN the archipelago because the pirates are all in the USA !!! Thank you Kamala . . .

@@merledeardorff7584 I understand your concern, but it is not fair to judge an entire nationality by the actions of a few. The 25 years of Chavismo have impacted Venezuela in all aspects and have destroyed many Venezuelan values, but the majority of Venezuelans are good people. Blaming everyone for the behavior of a few lacks empathy and humanity. I wish you a happy day, may God bless you, and a big hug from good Venezuelans.

I first started sailing in 1973, even got my captain's licence in 1983. I am willing to learn. Have I always spelled jibing wrong, should it be gybing, or is it a preference matter? I would prefer a different spelling than one that gets often confused with jiving. Thoughts?

Are you guys going to do the pacific crossing to Micronesia.?!?!? it feels like that would be your jam too! As far as sushi/sashimi prep, the freezing is not so much for killing bacteria. In general you want to both rest and age the fish to get the best flavors and aromas, especially if you consider that adrenaline both smells bad and tastes bad (fish/animals are full of adrenaline after you catch them and it takes a minimum of 24h to release it. and and you freeze to make it easier to cut and work with!...freezing does cut bacteria but most "dangerous" bacteria/pathogens comes from handling/prepping and how clean work surfaces are and not from the fish in nature.
