About 6 months ago I took delivery of a C4 that I had "resto modded" basically a track car. For nostalgic reasons, I had the LT1 rebuilt as a 383 with forged internals, AFR LT1 heads, a medium strength comp cam 224/230 112LSA, Holley ECU, Coil on Plug conversion w/EFI 24X system, blah, blah... At roughly 11.2 compression and 93 octane it puts out 452whp @ 6200 rpm w/434 wft/lb @4200 with over 365 ft/lb available from 2200 to 6000. A gen II SBC so not exactly the same but in the ball park. It makes for a very nice autoX, track, and street package. Instant torque & throttle response with enough "high end" power to be useful on the road courese.

@timothybayliss66804 жыл бұрын
You can use fuel injection above the blower, but if you run these blowers dry, with no fuel in them, they get hot. Like 400°f hot and the aluminum changes shape enough to cause the impellers to rub and gall. Having the fuel go through the blower keeps it cool as the fuel evaporates. Westech probably has 50 carburators on the shelf and Richard has done enough dyno work he could change jets faster than some people can hit a lightswitch.

Hey Richard I was wondering what would happen if you sprayed nitrous to the supercharged 383? With the roots style blower you stated it liked the cooling properties that the e85 gave so I was just wondering how would a 100 shot with the supercharger act. Also I have a 11.5.1 comp. 383 and i spray 250 shot can i throw a supercharger on it or will i grenade my engine.

Those BluePrint engines run pretty damn good, my bud Scott works for them. I really like ethanol fuel, cheap easy crazy power. You can make it at home as long as you don't drink it and ya get the free permit. Daily driving a 13:1 iron head NA Pontiac 455 that makes the same torque as the blown 383 (over a wider RPM range) with a Qjet on E85 is seriously fun. Tires and transmissions aren't so fond of it. Its too bad I can't bring one of my engines out there and run it, nobody in the magazine world wants to run anything but very mild daily driver Pontiac engines under 500hp/tq... ever since they killed the Pontiac specific mags there hasn't been any coverage of these engines, its all chevy and Ford stuff with a bit of Mopar.. Tossed a crank kit in it and sent the heads to be ported and milled, then splurged a bit on the hydraulic roller cam so that 455 cost me $4200 to build. It would easily make the same power with a $150 flat tappet hydraulic cam and be closer to $3000. Kinda makes the crate chevys look expensive for the minimal power they make.

13:1? Yes you will be putting good gel in the poncho! I also like to be different and am running a bb olds but at 11:1 I would if went higher but don’t know about the corn permit? Message me on social media I’d like to know more. Thank you! And thank you Richard Holdener for all the hard work and hours you put in to provide the data so that we may build projects that are proven and don’t waste so much $. What’s more for people you don’t even know!!! That’s huge hats off to you sir!!!

@@mikestufano4961 you only need the permit if you plan to produce ethanol, you can run E85, E90 or E98 in your vehicle without any permits or anything. All you need to run ethanol is a dedicated carb or EFI system tuned for it, and enough supply capacity to feed your engine. Its not as dire as most claim it is, in my street driven cars its all stock sized hard lines and stock tanks. You need to make sure its all clean though, because gasoline leaves varnish and residue that ethanol cleans out. Making ethanol is moonshining if you don't have the BATF permit for a micro producer. All you need to do is look up the ethanol fuel production permit, its free under 5000 gallons per year. Making enough fuel to run your car takes up quite a bit of space. Its not really something you can do in the suburbs, and no way to do it in an apartment unless you plan to only run small engines on it. Small engines have no problem with ethanol, but a big problem with additives they put in it when mixed with gasoline. That is what is causing problems, not ethanol. You need a source of sugar, water, and a place to go with what comes out of the still, like a herd of cattle, chickens, hogs, or earth worms or something else that will eat it and produce something useful. There might be a lot of it depending on the source of sugar. Its all edible, the water is reusable, and there is nothing toxic about it unless you're microbial life. It also works great as a hand sanitizer and degreaser. Using bakers yeast you get one gallon of ethanol from ten gallons of water, because the yeast can only tolerate 10% of their waste (ethanol) in the water they live in. There are hardier strains of yeast that can withstand 20% so you get 2 gallons per ten, and like I said before, you can use most of it again if you capture it and filter out any solids. Using 55 gallon drums for fermentation will yield you 5 gallons per barrel. So you need four barrels to fill the 20 gallon tank on your car. It takes about a week for the whole process using the batch method I use. It takes work and planning, most of the work involved is collecting the starch/sugar, and cleaning, the yeast do the really heavy lifting turning the sugar into ethanol and CO2. Making an engine run on ethanol is easy, but depending on which carb you have to convert, it can be involved to varied degrees. Qjets are involved because they have a wide tuning range, Holleys are metering block mods and a booster swap. Its easier to run E85, I do that too. But I have to drive 2 hours to fill barrels, then drive back. Nobody sells it closer to where I live. Usually a carb swap is all you need, unless the car has spent the better part of a decade on race gas or ethanol free gasoline, in which case it will have varnish and sludge that will plug the pump, filter, and carb/injectors when ethanol cleans it out. Its a different thought process tuning for ethanol, using the same methods you use for gasoline will make power, but you can make so much more running rich and hot.

Did you bump the timing with e85 or is all the e85 gain from cooling?
@SweatyFatGuy4 жыл бұрын
E85 cools the intake charge, allows more timing, compression and boost, and because it has more oxygen in it, makes more power unless you have no idea how to tune.
