Love your videos but this one blew me away - we actually lived in this apartment in the 90s. It was our daughters’ first home, they were both born in Fukuoka. The place is unrecognisable from how it looked before, it wasn’t til you showed the balconies that I realised where it was.

we don't use "mansion" in french. closest word would be "maison", but that's how we'd usually call a single family house in general, nothing to do with any type of appartment. i've heard many places in japan will easily keep one month rent (or charge extravagant "repair fees") from the deposit even if you return the apartment with as little damage if any. what's your experience with that?

We don't say "mansion" in French, we say "appartement". This is not luxury by French standards. It's not luxury in Fukuoka either. It's big and renewed but with cheap and ordinary equipment. It's just expensive.

Amazing unit! The price is a fraction of what a similar apartment would be in a major US city. That would likely cost $50,000 a month (or more) in New York City.

Mansion does not come from French, but from Latin... All countries with a language derived from Latin have the same word. However, I understand that the USA was influenced by the French.

Maison ~ home. (Yeah, that generic and in colloquial use, no monetary value/status is ascribed.) "aller a mon/leur/la maison" = going to my/their/the home. People might use apart/apartment to specify "flat", but it's not prerogatory. Maison is also used to convey origin/kinship especially nowadays for products/brands and was (less so today) employed also for people, as one would say in english: "of the house of Tudors".

In some apartments, gift money goes towards professional cleaning, new tatami mats, new wall coverings etc. It gives your apartment a facelift after the wear and tear of the previous tenants.

That's the security deposit not the reikin. Reikin is literally just money the owner pockets

@@supermarioworldofficial and it's ok, the same word can exist in different language of the same origin. For exemple tao, dao or do that you can find in asian languages influenced by the chinese culture.

@@supermarioworldofficial the answer is because french words were used by the upper class, whereas german words were lower class. The german word for house is 'haus' whereas the word for mansion is the french word for house :)

It's an appartment, not an Rbnb, you are supposed buy your own furniture and appliances. There are ovens, fridges, etc.

Ha, you should see houses where I live. They come with literally nothing, no cabinets, no sink, the kitchen is empty and you have to buy everything. America (and Europe?) is ahead in that.

By "mansion" did you mean "maison"? Maison is just a house. English speakers can usually tell the difference between the two since the former as an "n" before the "s".

That's what he's saying.. the French maison became mansion in English and took on a different meaning. Maison is more like single family houses. French would ordinarily call this appartmente. This isn't luxurious but just spacious.
