*Update:* As of November 2021, Adobe introduced rulers! Yay! So you can skip the part about turning your grid on (which if you're like me, NOT a fan of) and mark CF with a ruler instead:)

Hello thank you for the video. It's now 2023 and I know illustrator has been greatly improved for ipad pro. I am purchasing an ipad Pro to sketch and use illustrator for technical drawing and other school classes. Excell gas also improved for the specification sheets.
@383design Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting! You’re right! Adobe has improved the functionality for iPad. The most significant improvement, I think, has been the addition of rulers. They’ve also added brushes, but pattern brushes, which is what fashion designers usually use, are still not available, unfortunately. I do think there’s still plenty you can do to flat sketch in Illustrator on iPad. And I’m sure there will be additional updates this Fall when they have their Adobe Max conference:) Excel . . . I personally think it’s about the same, but if you’ve found some improvements that help you with spec sheets, that’s awesome!

Helpful video. Lots of updates since you did this… likely. I teach Fashion and other Illustration in universities and community colleges. The advantage of all the CC apps on tablets, et al, is of curse the stylus (pencil) directly on screen vs. OSX and Win based hardware which still, for the most part, requires a less direct form of interaction (i.e., digitizing pad such as a Wacom Intuos). Screens which allow direct interaction with applications such as Adobe’s CC’s (ex., Cintiq) are still $$$$$$$.
@383design Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting! There have been updates, but actually, not as many as you might think, at least not for what we use Illustrator for. Probably the most significant was the addition of rulers. They’ve added brushes, but pattern brushes, which is what most fashion designers use, are still not available on iPad. But I’m sure there will be additional updates in the Fall during Adobe Max.

Hi, do you have a tutorial for CREATING a flat in illustrator on ipad? not just importing something you already created. thank you.
@383design Жыл бұрын
Hello, if you mean freehand sketching when you say CREATING, none of my videos do that. There's never a time that I don't use some type of a guide, even if it's a croquis (a body). You don't necessarily need to sketch over a pre-existing sketch but you should use something as a guide. Otherwise, your sketch gets a little TOO freehand and usually isn't as accurate and proportional as it should be. If you'd rather use a figure, put that in your libraries and drag that onto the page instead.

Hi, due to some reason I’m not able to Join lines after releasing Clipping mask. I Tried multiple times, could you please guide me.
@383design6 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for watching and commenting. You have to ungroup first, and you'll probably have to do it a few times. It's a bit annoying, but it'll work once you do that. I have a more updated method to do this if you check out this video instead: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6PZYZqgq7p9kNUsi=e4F29sVR5GAaA27u

How can you duplicate a single object and flip/ mirrored it?
@icaserafica91782 жыл бұрын
I can’t seem to make the ends join as the join tool won’t appear. I have ungrouped and released clipping mask but still the JOIN icon won’t appear or let me join the ends. What am I doing wrong?
@383design2 жыл бұрын
There is no join icon on ipad. It's a little trickier than on the desktop. You just have to get close to the open point. Hopefully, they'll add the indicators that they have on the desktop version when you join two point or close a shape, etc. What also makes it tricky is you have to get used to the ipencil or whatever drawing stylus you're using because the point never seems to be right at the tip of where you place the tip of the stylus🤦🏾♀️

Why does a box appear around my clothing item after I to the expand and ungroup and all that to separate the items, I’m trying to color my design and this a box keeps appearing around my drawing
@383design2 ай бұрын
If you've got an object selected, there will be a bounding box around the item. It's just there to help you understand what part of your sketch is selected. The box goes edge to edge of whatever you have selected.

My teacher give assignment for making flat sketch on Adobe illustrator but i dont have desktop. So I make flat sketch in Adobe illustrator on iPad?
@383design Жыл бұрын
It depends on the assignment. There's a lot you can do on the iPad, but for instance, you can't create pattern brushes which most designers use add stitching to their garments. But you can add the stitching manually on the iPad. The best thing to do is to speak with your teacher. Let her know that you plan to work on your iPad so she can discuss the limitations with you. I tell my students that they can use the iPad for most things, but when we get to assignment with tools and functions that are not yet available on the ipad, they'll need to use the school computing sites.

Adobe illustrator in iPad and laptop have same features?
@383design Жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for watching and commenting. Sadly, no. All features are not available yet on the iPad. I imagine they'll eventually try to get everything to work, or at least any tool that can function on an ipad, but they're not there yet. There's quite a bit, though, that you CAN do so if you have a CC subscription and an ipad, give it a try!

You probably haven't closed your shapes. Are you getting diagonal lines on your sketches? If so, that's definitely the issue. I've also had more issues with the iPad "shape builder" than when I use the shape builder on the desktop. So if it's not just the diagonal lines, it might be how you're trying to close your shapes on the ipad.
