Fun fact about Super Hang-on. I play tested the Atari ST version which was released first. The current build which was close to being finished had Turbo on Space Bar & Brake on Mouse. I told them the arcade has Throttle and Turbo on the right and Break on the Left so Brake should be on Space Bar and they actually changed it to what I said. Obviously the Amiga version then followed suit with the controls. 😉 If your still reading, in Southampton there used to be a shop called Compucade which started in the later 80's were you could pay to play Atari ST's and Amiga's for an hour at a time. I used to be a regular in the 80's. The Devs who were based in Southampton asked if they could demo ST Super Hang-on to get people's opinions so I made sure I was there when they turned up being a Sega fan. My jaw hit the floor and immediately said you guys should of done OutRun!! They smiled. I think secretly they wanted to show off what they had achieved and rightly so! It's crazy to think that moment in time would end up being one game that has lasted the test of time when it comes to playing the classics. 🙂

If you have an original copy the back of the box should show an address for Electronic Dreams in Southampton. Compucade is listed on Wiki, not my doing. I love it on Amiga and prefer it to the Megadrive version. Yeah great racer and glad to see it up there with the best. 👍

The settings on Extreme racing do allow you to make it look a lot better, if your Amiga has a beefier CPU and some fast RAM etc. It is pretty good on an 060 equipped A1200!

Another very interesting video. As an old-school owner of the very first Amiga, the Amiga 1000, I found most of the racing games to be, well, terrible. Programmers really struggled to create an arcade-style racing game on the Amiga. Most of the games featured here suffer from serious, fundamental problems: terrible frame rate, poor draw distance, poor sense of speed, an inability to get the perspective right, an inability to make the car feel like it is actually in contact with the road, and just awful graphics. All of this was VERY evident at the time of release. We knew what a good arcade racer looked like - we had all played the brilliant Pitstop 2 on the C64 (released 1984). We expected great things from the Amiga - but were disappointed. Very few Amiga racers came anywhere near Pitstop 2. At the other end of the scale were the magnificent Lotus 1 and 2 ( Lotus 2 being my favourite). They got everything right and still look stunning to this day. Super Hang-on was good too, though the frame rate could have been better - and the other bikers could not stay anchored to the spot they occupied on the track. Instead, they jerk all over the place as they approach. Vroom, too, gets everything right and looks amazing.

I've played only a few of them having never owned an original Amiga but I'd agree with your assessment of those I have experience of. Lotus 2+3 were staples of multiplayer at my friends house back in the day; I also agree that the first Lotus game made for a better single player experience. You've given me some ideas of where to get started on adding games to my A500 Mini! Thanks!

This rating grid is a really good way to classify games, well done. However I think AGA games should be labeled as such, as the underlying hardware is more powerful. Nice video, thx! PS: Ah, nearly forgot, it's pronounced "Mille Miglia" which was a famous open-road motorsport endurance race, established 1927 in Northern Italy. The race went over a thousand miles hence the name.
@tomaskonvicka41358 күн бұрын
It's basically a nice video and we more or less agree on the rating. Thanks for that:) But, there are a few essential games like Nitro, Micro machines, All Terrain Racing,... And to inappropriately rate Xtreme Racing because of the wrong graphic config and resolution is unfair. It works decently on the 030 and it's a fun game.

Lotus 2 wasn't the best in the series, but definitely had the best music. My sister and I would always enter the turpentine cheat so we could cruise through the eight courses at our own pace, racing each other instead

Amiga was a bit disappointing in the racing field, with most games falling short in the sense of speed. Some of the games which did have a sense of speed you didn't cover like Vroom. There was also an Indianapolis style racer which had great physics. There was an oddball title I had where you controlled a tube and rotated it so the chequered elements were moved underneath you, you died when you hit a gap. I really liked that game but I can't find it anywhere on the net. My best memories were 4 player Lotus 2. The commentator shouting out "Checkpoint" always gave us a sense of where your friends were, usually I was ahead because it was my setup. Stunt car racer, although archaic in design needs an update to modern consoles, the 16 bit power wasn't enough to do it justice I would just love to play it on modern consoles jumping through the air.

@@atomiswave1971 Both Vroom and Indianapolis 500 were great games and featured in the Sim Racing video I did a while back. The game you described sounds like STUN Runner from Domark, based on the arcade game.

@@UKGamingNetwork not stun runner. In that game you control a craft, in the game I described you control the tube which is hexagonal or octagonal. You rotate it and jump.

Really close between Crazy Cars III and the first two Lotuses for me. Buggy Boy is one of those games I probably enjoy more than it deserves. Beyond the first two tiers (and Xtreme Racing on at least an A1200 with fastRAM) I'd struggle to recommend any of these, in truth. I'd put Drivin' Force above Power Drift though.

Alot of good placements there, but strange to see Bump n Burn so low down, had great fun with that when it came out, plus got decent reviews across the board, obviously not your cup of tea, but below Street Racer a game that is basically unplayable!?

Agree pretty much with all your placements. I have a strange relationship with Outrun. I bought it on budget and having recently moved over from the Spectrum I thought it was great. However, at that time I had never seen the original arcade or any other racers on the Amiga. Looking back now its clear to see how bad it was. I do however think Overlander has better graphics on the Mig than the ST. I saw Chinnyvision do a comparison video for it recently and the ST graphics looked cheap and dated compared to the Amiga's.
@UKGamingNetwork3 ай бұрын
@@AmbersKnight I did actually have a quick go on the ST version of Overlander when putting together this video. Maybe I just prefer it as that was the one I played first but I think the car looks a lot better in the ST version whereas the road itself is better on the Amiga
