On my journey to simplifying my life, I have realized that there were things I could stop buying to save money, live more intentionally, and create a more simple and natural home. Today I am sharing a few of these things. I kept thinking of more things I stopped buying after I filmed this video, so maybe a part 2 to come. 🙃 Comment below with anything you have stopped buying!

I'm from Mexico and here we all clean our counters and furniture with a piece of cloth; sometimes we even make them from old ripped t-shirts and they work wonders. I'm glad you've mentioned this habit, 'cause I think no one really talks about it in minimalist videos.

I have been on this journey for a while also but getting my husband to accept change is like pulling teeth. Every time I declutter something he acts like I committed murder. 😂😂 it’s really ridiculous !

I 100% agree that the majority of folks can do with so much less kitchen clutter. Kitchen clutter is such a big one. The only reason to have more specific items is if you, like us, process food often. For instance, we have cherry trees and own a cherry pitter, or we get a lot of apples in the fall and own an apple corer and peeler. Makes that part of life more enjoyable for sure. I wish there were more item-sharing co-ops around the world where those specific items could be rented when needed.
@lightandmind77

Absolutely! That makes total sense to own those items! It is whatever adds value to you and your life. That is so cool you have cherry and apple trees!

@@lightandmind77 yeah! I wonder what your opinion is on how you discern or validate keeping items with occasional use if they bring joy, albeit it infrequently. I have those items tucked away and sometimes I think they should be on display because they are imbued with warm memories. I play with the idea of being a minimalist with see-through cabinets. I wonder if seeing the few things I own more often would bring me more joy, lol. Then other times, like right now, I buy a piece of furniture that can hold a number of items in it so my space is that much more simplified. I use all those items frequently, so I think it makes sense. Like when I look at paintings of Japanese tatami rooms and realize that it's not that they lack items, but rather that those rooms have built-in storage and they are appealing storage items to look at usually. Of course it's crucial not to just use a storage item as an excuse to have more, but I think there's something to be said for its existance because, say a media console can act as an added surface to elevate plants or single out items that have meaning and purpose...
@lightandmind77
@lightandmind77 8 ай бұрын
I get what you are saying. A piece of furniture can definitely serve more than one purpose and I think that helps to cut down on furniture. For instance, our tv stand holds kids toys and a plant on top. I used that so I would not need another toy storage solution. I think it is beautiful to display meaningful things because then you receive joy from them on a regular basis. It can be helpful to use the item with warm memories in a useful way if possible. For example, I had this sweet ceramic platter from my grandmother who passed away, and I really liked the platter. So instead of just putting in in storage, I am using it as a plant tray under one of my plants. It is not adding any clutter and it gets used every day. Just an idea that might help! :) Of course minimalism is never about how much you own or how little you own. It is about keeping the right amount for you and getting rid of what isn't important. So you can create a peaceful home and mind. 🤍

Hi thank you for dropping this video and congratulations on reaching 1k subscribers 🎉 I only recently stopped buyinh almost everything you said and I also have a sensitive skin so can't use chemical products only natural things go with my skin. I use coconut oil for my hair and for skin and hair I use simple soap. And of course I used to be sucker for cute cloths bags and purses now even seeing them in shop doesn't bother me like before because I know I don't need them. Thank you for sharing your journey with us and wish you and your family all the best 💜

This felt pleasantly validating- I could’ve almost written this list myself ☺️ what about nail varnish? I stopped wearing it years ago because it’s basically coating your nails in plastic that then chips off in little flakes, but caught myself the other day thinking a little wistfully of the younger (and more lighthearted?? Probably wasn’t in reality) version of me with painted nails. I guess it’s likely not to be the nail varnish that I was really yearning for, but rather the feelings I’m associating with the nail varnish, of days with less responsibility… enjoyed your video, thank you
@lightandmind77

It is funny you are talking about nails, because a few months ago I stopped painting my nails. I felt an unnatural attachment to having them done ALL the time and I wanted to test myself. It was very normal to me and having my nails natural was wrong in my mind. How sad is that? I have really enjoyed letting that habit go for now....It's not to say I won't go back to it in the future. For right now I feel like I have grown and let go of something that I was unnaturally clinging to. Something so simple can speak so much sometimes. I think it is always about our intention behind whatever habit we are doing. I hope my answer helps. Good for you for being able to see that you might be associating feelings for something a lot deeper than just nail polish. It is beautiful to tune in and see things for how they really are. Sending all my love and light. 🤍🔆

This is admirable! I particularly love the towels idea as I’ve had that idea myself for my future family... I’m almost 25. I’m on a minamilistic journey and it feels unusual to me!! I’m trying to let go of past things, as a lot of clothes and items have past memories oddly attatched to them. I feel like my style has changed and I know exactly what my fave products are and only want to use them. It’s so much easier. I’m learning to let go of all the clutter/chaos, as I’ve always been used to it! I’m like a new version of me! 💛

I make it out of water, Castile soap and essential oils. I jut fill a spray bottle up with water and just a small squirt of Castile soap. Then add your favorite drops of essential oils. I like tea tree oil. But you could use any....lemon, peppermint, lavender, etc :)

Hi, nice video I wonder how do you make those baby wipes? As a mum I know there are expensive 😅 have a nice day. Greetings from The Netherlands
@lightandmind77
@lightandmind77 8 ай бұрын
Easy simple baby wipe recipe: You will need a reusable baby wipe container, cloth like paper towels(I use viva signature cloth), and Castile soap. The cloth like paper towels is best for making wipes because just regular towels will fall apart when wet. Rip or cut the sheets of paper towels in half until your baby wipe container is full. Then add 2 cups of filtered water with a squirt of Castile soap(in the water) on top of the wipes. Let sit for about 10 minutes for the water to soak into the wipes. That is pretty much it. Hopefully it helps and makes sense! 🙂

Yes, I just use cloth like paper towels( the viva brand). I tear them in half( so they are the size of a normal baby wipe) and pile them in the baby wipe container with 2 cups of filtered water and a little squirt of Dr. Bronners castile soap. :)
