Definitely a masterpiece. Wonderful choreography and passion. Should have receieved 6.0s on the second mark.

I was so happy when he earned 3rd and then earned silver after the LP. The joy on his face was just contagious.

Shame on the judges for under scoring Paul for this magnificent skate.

Paul was inconsistent in Competition. Judges tended to go with the Athletes who delivered more regularly.

Paul should have been leading after the short program with this skate. No one had better footwork, and his jumps were spot-on. He was judged by past performances as much as by this one, not to mention the whole block-judging thing was against him. Oh well. He's still remembered as the best of Albertville, despite taking silver.

LOL Petrenko was clearly the best in the short program.

Clearly? No. Arguably I will give you, along with respect for your opinion. No derisive laughter from this corner. Not today.

@@nightswimmer99 Did ANYONE at the time say "Wylie should have won the short program". Hell no. Some said he should have won the gold, and still do yes, but nobody at the time even said he should have been 1st in the short. Petrenko skated flawlessly with a far more difficult jump combination, and easily won the short.

Massively underscored ! If they had given him the marks he deserved he would've won. 5.3 for perfection?!!!

I don't see how a judge could have found a 5.3, 5.4 or even a 5.5 in that performance.

The judges were leaving space for those yet to come since historically, Paul did not always do well.
@TheWayWithKhuwayne Жыл бұрын
@@johnorlando9839 This performance was among one of the last of the evening. This performance far exceeded the majority of the performances including Barna, there's no reason he should have anything lower than 5.6 for technical and 5.7 for artistic.

Those artistic impression marks are criminal. Superb.

I always watch this at least a few times a year. An incredible skater who finally got his due. His spirals & spins were incredible. But his artistry and feeling for the music are the best since the all time champion, John Curry.

5.3... For such a program ??? Such a shame. Fantastic skater. And my favorite music : la Valse, by Ravel.

5.4 for artistic from the Unified Judge? WTF?? That was a 5.7-5.8 performance at least.
@metsdudenj9 жыл бұрын
He was 10th the year before and this time he got what he deserved: a medal. His SP should have been second. Petrenko did a harder combination. And Wylie barely pulled off the second jump in the combo. I had him second here and first in the long. I also had Bowman third in the long. He deserved bronze over Barna
@e2theeyepie6 жыл бұрын
Oh man, I almost forgot how Barna's LP was a total snooze-fest...
@mikeg83755 жыл бұрын
Because of factored placements, even though Wylie is 3rd after sp (which i agree he should have been 2nd) he would still have won gold if he had finished 1st in the LP...
@TheWayWithKhuwayne Жыл бұрын
What about Elvis? Elvis skated clean and had all the combinations down. If anything Bowman & Stojko should have been in the medals with Wylie, the true gold medalist.

Should have been placed at least 2nd if not first. One of the finest examples of musicality and collaboration w/choreographer. It's an exceptional performance and proves how judging was based on past performances. Not a single mistake.

Hey Paul. Its tab, one of your biggest fans. Hope your doing well. Just wanted to give you an update on what's going on. Ad you know I have tennis elbow, an impinchment of the shoulder and know tendonitis in my hand. All three injuries are all in the same arm please pray for healing, I'm awaiting a call from a o.t. this whole injury has drawn me closer to the lord. I miss you lots and miss watching you skate.

Wylie was erratic. When he was good he was sensational. When he was bad he was terrible. He won a silver medal at the Albertvillle Olympics which was a big surprise since nobody expected him to win anything.

Aren’t Olympic performances distinct from ‘body of work’. Not kosher to judge outside the performance....

For most of his career, his studies were an equal priority with his skating. By the 1991-1992 season, he had graduated from Harvard with honors and was able to focus on skating. This was the result. But placing top 10 in the world while also being an honors student at Harvard is a testimony to his talent as a skater, as well as his intelligence and work ethic.

Should have been 4th behind Stojko in the short rather than 3rd. Stojko's artistry was weaker but jumps were so much better.
@mikeg8375 Жыл бұрын
It wasn't all about the jumps though. The required elements included spins and footwork where Paul was obviously better than the field. His footwork sequences were the best in the field that night. Stojko's jumps were great here but both his original and long programs were filled with crossovers, awkward arm movements, and two foot skating. His choreography really improved the following year but it was really weak here.
