It really has had a impact. I was never a Superman fan, I always thought he was boring (very VERY wrongfully). I also was never a big fan. I respect the character and can watch him, but never get fully invested. Because the recent iteration was a joke and avoided the reason why people love the character. It’s also the reason that he is super OP that it is hard to have stakes in the movie or care. This shows he will be what Superman is truly supposed to be, and clearly it appears to have stakes. Seeing a vulnerable Superman is what we need. Vulnerable means a chance to overcome and a chance to connect to the audience on a more emotional level.

Most animated series I have seen are R rated or TV-MA. I struggle to watch anything to cartoony, because the storylines are too afraid to take risk. I respect the character and know what he represents, and I haven't seen that in live action done to a great extent. Christopher Reeves is great, but those movies are dated. Very similar to a lot of the other films. Zack Snyder just wasnt it at all, besides Cavill being in the role.

I don't get the fear of it being "bloated" said by so many people. This is James Gunn. He did GotG. He did The Suicide Squad. He did Peacemaker and now Creature Commandos. The dude can do ensembles and not make it feel too busy. He made a Superman film, don't worry. The other heroes are there for flavour and contrast. People are willing to look past it, because it was the finale of an already great two movies. Longer means more time to give to a conclusion and wrap up. Considering this new Superman and DCU starts in a world already filled with hero’s and craziness, it’s probably not going to be bloated. It’s going to be background dressing and world building, over trying to inject fan service and to much nonsense.

I think you are completely right in the fact that one of the reasons that this Superman is generating such positive buzz is because the tone is so drastically different from the previous Men Of Steel - it is bursting with a more lighthearted, positive and bright vibe, and people need that! Life is depressing enough as it is, we go to the movies for an uplifting escape from that.
