Absolutely agree on the weekend / day van comments, we don’t have a power oak, we have an Allpowers unit (same concept) and it’s so much easier to setup, I’ve ended up almost wiring ours in to the van and it powers our entire van, but is removable 👍

Great video and review - thanks. I would suggest that instead of carrying a spare battery with you (it is after all principally a very expensive battery) you might be much better off with as much solar as possible on your roof. The various outlets on the unit are great but it's very heavy and very expensive. Of course you also need a suitably sized battery to store all that solar power. For £500 you could get a decent 300w panel, an MPPT solar controller, all the cables and a pure sine inverter (a 12/375 works fine for me). Overall that would be a much better solution. For 'on the go' power take a small battery bank which can easily charge your phone twice whilst waiting for that elusive badger or redstart!
@campervibe4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, thank you 😁 We already have 300 Watts of solar and 3 110 agm batteries, I could add more solar obviously but the whole point is to have a back up that is completely independent of our existing system. We could get a power bank but we need a bit more than a quick charge and this system includes the ability to use 240v appliances, so if we are in a bit of bother I can charge power tools if needed. We plan to get well off grid and having backups for all of our resources is what we are aiming for 😁👍

Hi Emily & Louise. Great video. Power stations are the way to go. Much more efficient than lugging around heavy AGM batteries that you can only draw 50% of available watt hours. One question, can the Poweroak 500 power your fridge. I think the fridge will need a regulated 12v power supply and will draw a high amperage when the compressor fires up.
@campervibe3 жыл бұрын
Hi Barry. I don't know if it would run the fridge but I would say that this 500 wh one probably wouldn't run it for very long at all. Our fridge still runs off our main battery system.
@barry-cq4xg3 жыл бұрын
@@campervibe thanks for your reply. I can see you eventually replacing your stone age lead boxes for a high capacity power station (say 2000 watt hours) and running everything off it (including Emilys vacuum cleaner). I cannot imagine any one considering AGM or GEL batteries in the future especially when you consider the expernse of all the peripherals and cabling etc you will need to install the electrical system to say nothing of the skills needed. Appreciate that you always respond to comments (Mel is the same). Not all KZbinrs bother to respond!. Hope you both are enjoying Spain and safe travels.

Wow Louise thanks for great review. That looks like exactly what we are looking for in our van , have been looking for a simple solution to having off-grid/easily chargeable power. I would love to know what you think of the solar panels for it..... are they efficient? Capacity? Good in overcast conditions? Any info/opinions gratefully received. Loving your videos thanks gals 😄 Lynda
@campervibe4 жыл бұрын
Hi lynda, no problem. I was actually so impressed with the panel, I was getting near total capacity in full sun! I have a rigid panel on my roof and the power Oak fold out was more efficient, I think a big part of that is the fact it sits at an angle. The design of it is very good. I can't say for overcast yet as we haven't had all that much overcast days down here in the south. It's a fantastic bit of kit, it's not going to run a fridge for long periods of time but it's perfect if you want to run light, charge phones, cameras, run a speaker and what not. Hope that helps.
