I bought this x-mas tree but it's cloned or something. At the base of the tree, there is 5v usb port instead of battery holder like you have. Completed the soldering. One side of the tree leds are flashing, but the other side it's not. Also I get extra pcb (the side with gap in the top part), I don't know if it will function or not. Does it need both sides to work?
@ImNotADeeJay11 ай бұрын
just finished mine, In one of the PCBs three LEDs of each side won't light.. what could it be? Thanks

If one of the boards is working visual compare the two to make sure you are not missing a component. Check to make sure you did not miss a solder joint to a component. On mine all the transistors have the flat side down. Do you mean you have a total of six diodes not working on one board? Sometimes you can have what they call a cold solder joint that you did not heat enough and will be dull in appearance and not make a good electrical contact to the solder pad on the board. I know the leds are very small but maybe you installed one backwards. Check closely with a magnifying glass if you have one. Everyone can make a mistake in electronics so just take you time and you'll figure it out. Troubleshooting is part of the process when doing a project like this. I think I caught myself making a mistake too. Good luck. Hope this helps. If you have a meter you can check voltages on the two boards to see what is different to stir you in the right direction to find the problem.

@@tmc200527 I checked, no component is missing, no capacitors or transistors are backwards... a bit frustrating. Thanks for your help.

I tried to make one, but after making all of this, nothing happen. I press the button and it doesn't light. Do you know what can be wrong?
@tmc20052711 ай бұрын
I don't know how much experience you have with electronics or soldering but some of the parts need to be installed with the correct orientation. The same for the transistors and the capacitors. If you look at the bottom of the Christmas tree halves there are plus and minus markings that have to align with the markings on the base.

I assembled tree and it all works but even if switch is off it blinks anyway! I don't understand where I mistaken
@tmc2005272 жыл бұрын
Maybe you have a solder bridge under the switch? Did you install the two batter jumpers correctly. You could try removing the switch and then see if it still turns on with the batteries installed.
@FrancescoCapone842 жыл бұрын
@@tmc200527 i think switch is malfunctioning. When is on light is strong, when is off light is a little weak. And when it is on and I put on off for a second light is really weak and it becomes a little stronger after a second

Can you control the speed?
@tmc2005276 жыл бұрын
I'm not certain to what extent the transistor circuit with the electrolytic capacitors are controlling the frequency of the LED turning on and off but they have these LEDs in larger sizes and different cycling speeds. I found this one on Sparkfun www.sparkfun.com/products/11452. The data sheet just shows an IC with no identification and a timing diagram. cdn.sparkfun.com/datasheets/Components/LED/changingLED.pdf

@@Riskteven yes, but the RGB LEDs that come with this kit can't be controlled, they just do their flickery RGB thing, which didn't look good
@tmc2005276 жыл бұрын
I was wondering if there were larger ones available but I don't know if it would throw the proportions off on the look of the small tree. I found some on Sparkfun that are 10mm size. www.sparkfun.com/products/11452 The lead spacing might be wider so they might not fit. I think the ones in the kit are 3mm size?
