The graphics are projected on a wall and door that's why it distorts occasionally. The aerials are through the air. You can project on a scrim or water screen if you want mid air projection.

SeanChaney, I want to thank you for posting all this information and video. I read under the more info section and you give even locations where we can buy the stuff. I find your info to be the more complete I have seen so far. I love the video too. Congratulations on this and your next laser project and again thank you!

Thank You Noccy80! I've thought about writing some manuals or papers on what I've learned over the years, allot of it has been trial and error (the projector in the video was going to be RGY but the green laser over powered the red so I separated the output beams for dual images.) It's a very expensive hobby although the prices have dropped dramatically in the past 14 years from the large frame gas lasers to the DPSS lasers you can get now.

The rotating girl, the geometric shapes at 1:07 and the scene with the guy painting are all shared laser files from the Aphalite user group (Probably created using Pangolin pro). The Alphalite from laserillusions will allow you to make 3d geometric shapes on the fly like the ones at the end of the video as well as play any pangolin 3d files.

The laser beam bounces off two mirrors X axis and Y axis that positions the beam by computer software to make the image. These two mirrors are mounted to two closed loop Galvometers also called galvos or scanners. These galvos move extremely fast, mine move about 30,000 points per second the fastest go 60,000 PPS. In the assembly pics in the Vid the Galvos are in the black box after the red and green beams combine, the drivers for the galvos is the large electronics board behind the galvos.

@coolaidkiller This video is now four years old and the video I took that makes up this video is 8 years old. Technology has really advanced allot over the years. It is defiantly possible to make full color images as well as Vector video you would have to use a RGB laser projector, Pangolin software with very fast scanners. This setup is also very expensive. A lot of people don't realize some of the new DLP HD projectors at movie theaters have RGB laser diodes running them.

By the way I put this video together just to show a few friends the projector I started to make around 2003 and my strange and unfinished song that I thought was funny but can get very annoying. Im regretting I did not use another one of my songs now that it is about 3 years later and more than the 7 original people have seen it.

I used mirrors on speakers 25 years ago, that is something you do when you are just starting out. What you see in this video was built 7 years ago you can build it allot cheaper now. Galvos above 30,000 Points per second is the only way to go for great text and graphics (not kHz). you can not do graphics or text with mirrors on speakers or mirrors mounted to motors. That is why It cost so much money back then to build this.

I never stated I built the whole thing from scratch nor do I state I created all the animations. If you go back in the comments to page 10 I explain the rotating girl, the three rotating objects and the guy painting are ILDA files off the web all the rest is my creation using a combination of preset patterns in the Alphalite software as well as algorithm settings for the lissajous and 3D stuff at the end.The photos and footage was taken in 2003 when I built the projector. This is just a hobby.

That was dynamic dazzling cool project like to try that how many milliseconds is the laser flicking at with the synced music or sound have you tried sine waves or oscillator generator.
@SeanChaney
@SeanChaney 15 жыл бұрын
From 0:58 the animations are projected on a flat 10 foot high wall with a door in the middle. You can see the door in some of the images. The projected image is about 6 feet high I have 4 control knobs on the back of the projector that can vary the size and position of the X and Y axis to any size I want. The 3D is an Illusion just as 3d on a computer is an illusion. There are a lot of 2D animations in this. The 3D can be seen at 0:58, 1:08 1:50 and the best is everything past 5:32

.First off this can be a very expensive hobby, but like all technology prices have fallen dramatically over the years. The price depends on the quality of the scanners and the power of the lasers as well as the software you use. I spent about $4,000 back between 2000 and 2003 for the parts and software. I was experimenting with the new DPSS and Diode lasers of the time. The pictures in the video were taken back in 2003.
@SeanChaney

It was a fraction of the cost of my original Argon system I built in 95 but it was still expensive. Most of the parts I bought off Ebay one piece at a time as I could afford them. I believe the whole thing including software and controller was around $4,000 the most expensive part was the galvo board and galvos $1,600.

I think I want to make this! I really like how the man hammering(?) is going with the beat of the music until the end of the clip. Do you have any suggestions on what a good cheap laser? pretty much something bright and that can burn stuff very well for under $100. I got a 100mw 532nm Open-back Green Laser that does alright but I want something that can light cigarettes or burn anything of any color not just black. What does "open-back" mean for a laser? Can you help me out?

The case is underneath the plexi glass on the last couple laser alignment pics . I prefer to mount the parts and optics on the mounting surface test them then install that into the case. I have never said this is special in fact I'm trying to show that anyone can build one. This Projector is homemade and through some expensive trial and error this is what I came up with in 2003. It is only used at my house due to US Variance laws in other parts of the world I believe you can use them anywhere.

Impressive! 400$ controller+software packet sounds affordable. Do you think it would be possible to build even a simple laser projector which could be attached with Pan-tilt unit (movable with servos)? So basically small and weighting less than 1kg.

Look under (More info) on the right for system details. The software is called Alpalite from Laser Illusions. You can create just about anything with it and allows you to playback any Pagolin laser file including 3d. The girl, the rotating objects after the girl and the scene with the guy painting are shared files I found off the Alphalite users group all the rest I created using the Alphalite software.

Its being projected on a wall and a door and gives the illusion its in mid-air. In real life it appears like you can reach out and touch it. The aerials at 1:58 are mid-air.

Sean, You should really approach a car audio company like Alpine, Etc. That image at 6:13+ That looks like a speaker would be great for their big Show booths like SEMA etc. Also you should approach the Makers of DJ & Club lighting like ADJ, Martin, Chauvet. Just a few suggestions. I remember people tripping out when I showed up at a car show with a Black widow projecting on the back glass. Took best of show. I have since modified it to green. Take care, Rampage

I don't know how to build lasers, but I tried to make one once, it just did circles and tubes ( I had to hold the laser whilst I pointed it at mirrors spinning on a motor.

around 30,000 points per second. I used a Catweazle scanner and driver but I don't think they make these anymore. CT scanners are the best, over 50,000 points per second.

@doceigen i think it's more a case of people just grow tired of seeing the same effects. When I was younger lasers and strobes seemed amazing in nightclubs but now I don't give them a second look. I've seen video mapping used quite a lot with projectors but it doesn't really interest me that much. It's just video projected onto a wall and I can't see what all the fuss is about. The cool effects nowdays for me are anything with LED's.

The title is Sexorcist I made it in the winter of 2000. I was never able to complete it because my hard drive crashed right after I burned this rough version to CD. It was experimental the mix is off and the lyrics can be very annoying I think most guys can relate to the nagging lyrics. Anyway the song is mine and was the right length I needed for the video.

No place does it say How to build a laser projector. This is a very old video the pictures and video segments that make up the video are around 9 years old. The case was from an APC battery the high powered Diode and DPSS lasers I purchased in 2001 and were brand new technology at the time so this is not a deconstructed projector its a prototype built from components i had. The average projector was still several feet long and used large Argon lasers that used 3 phase power and water cooling.
