After 10 years since my last design and print I'm basically starting over. I just purchased an Ender 3 V3 KE and am having much fun. No point in trying to reinvent the wheel when it comes to Lithophanes so a big thank you for doing the leg work on the settings. Of course I'll tweak them out but this is truly a time saver. Thanks again.🙏👍🙌

The .STEP files are available here: www.dropbox.com/s/7s10dqgz8ysxmqq/Lithopane%20Light%20Box.step?dl=0 The bodies are all separated so the mounting components can be easily adjusted to fit a similar board.

Hi! Did Iunderstand that your infill is 0%? I have always read or been taught it should be at 99% for Lithos. Can you help me with this please? Thanks!
@Polymaker3 жыл бұрын
Hi Stacey, yes infill is 0%, but with 3 shells/perimeters the lithophane is still solid plastic. You will get a better print quality using shells/perimeters to make the part solid rather than infill in this case.

Awesome video! I am wondering though how you managed to model the exact curve for the box the lithophane sits in. I am looking to design my own box with my own internal hardware and am struggling to figure out the arc. Is it a arc of an ellipse or is it the arc for a circle for example. Anything you can let me know would be amazing. Thanks!
@Polymaker2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jacob, I imported the the mesh (.stl) file into Fusion 360 and then drew some circles to match the curve. I then added a small tolerance (0.5mm on each side) to make sure the lithophane sits in the frame nicely. You can find the original step files in the comment below, I have checked the files and the radius I used were: Inner Rad - 94.7mm Length 150mm // Outer Rad - 98.3mm Length 153mm // Height -102.6mm

@@BlackDreaded Thanks! I did find it and signed up to use it. When I am ready, I will climb that learning curve! I think it will be necessary to revise this box design because, like pretty much everyone else on here, I cannot find a source for that particular LED lighting unit.

hello, What photo editing software did you use in the video? trying to crop my photo ect to what you had said
@Polymaker2 жыл бұрын
Adobe Photoshop, images cropped to 2:3 ratio. I think you can have success with other photo editing software also. Try to keep the image size under 1mb which will help with the processing on 3dp.rocks/lithophane

Which slicer do you use and recommend? Cura? Slic3r? PrusaSlicer? Something else? I have a ToyBox 3D printer (easy enough for a kid to use), but just realized it accepts gcode files so I can slice myself to tweak the settings. I'll be downloading a slicer and trying it for my first time ever shortly.

For this video, Simplify3D was used, however, this is a paid-for software. If you are looking for a free-to-use software I would recommend Cura.

@@Polymaker Thank you! Much appreciated. I was using 200C print temp 25C bed temp 100% flow rate (extrusion multiplier). I got pretty good results. I'll try again with 225C print temp 25C bed temp (I don't have a heated bed), and tinker with 100% vs 90% flow rate to see how that affects it. I'm using Cura as the slicer, and the same PolyTerra™ PLA Cotton White filament as you. By the way, you spelled "Bed" as "Bwd" in your description under the video. Is there any limitation besides the printers build volume to the size of lithophane printed?
@Polymaker3 жыл бұрын
For a curved lithophane I think 250-300mm in height would be a limit. For flat lithophanes they will need some extra stability during printing to ensure clean results. Print a large brim with multiple layers for extra stability.
