Oh wow! This is a game changer! I've made silicone and latex ears, but getting a good cast of my own ear's such a pain.

Great video so of course I had to try it right away. I used a plastic human skull on a column to scan. Polycam is a paid app at $99 a year. The free version gets you one file format (glb/gltf) and 12 photogrammetry scans but looks like unlimited Lidar scans (can't do that with my iphone 8). I was able to email the 5mb scan to myself and bring it into blender and the texture maps came with it bundled in the glb file.

That's good to know about the GLB file--we've had a paid account for awhile and I forgot OBJ was paywalled.
@Chemvaldes8 ай бұрын
@@punishedprops It made a pretty good scan on medium quality setting. The teeth didn't show up very well but I could easily clean it up using the sculpting tools in Blender. Plus it was so quick! It was such a simple process that worked well. GLB format worked great, the file came to 34,000 triangles and would be a perfect base mesh for a starting sculpt.

Ayy that scan came out amazing! I always struggle to capture the detail nicely on mine, can’t hold still long enough lol. Blender is a… tricky piece of software. I’ve been using it consistently for four years now, and only felt comfortable with it in the last year. Really impressed seeing you pick it up as quick as you did! I think someone else already pointed out that hitting A in edit mode selects all, but I also noticed you were manually choosing the side views and scrolling to view to the part. If your keyboard has a number pad, you can hit period on it and it’ll centre up on the active part, and the rest of the numbers change your view nice and quickly. Really excited to see the rest of the costume build, and love seeing the amount of different prop techniques being used already so early in the project!

Good job, soldier! I feel like I need to make 3D scans of my body so if I lose something I can just print a replacement part :D

The tough part about good scans is you pretty much need a second person. It's really hard to get a good scan of yourself.

I like the idea of doing a 3D scan on my puppet. Where would be a good place ask about possible methods for making a soft model of him? Being he has no head structure besides my hand making costumes and props can be difficult.

While this is a very cool and fast method, seems like the alginate method would be easier to get accurate details, like the space behind her ears. For the sake of science, im mildly disappointed you didn't do both methods to show pros and cons. Either way, very cool to have ears!!!

If you hit A in edit mode in blender it also selects everything, to deselect everything hit A again. If you have a face selected and hit E it will extrude too. Make sure you see that blue line when you extrude up or down and if you don't see the blue line when you hit E, follow with hitting Z.

We did get a scan of our cat sleeping, haha. There's a cool option in Polycam to drop the scanned file into the real world that you can view through your phone "augmented reality" style. You can change the scale, so we put a giant version of our cat in the yard!
