3D Print Your Own WILDLY Over-Engineered Candy Dispenser

This piece is called the Love Conveyor, and nothing demonstrates love like small bits of chocolate coated in delicious, colourful candy. Dubbed (by its creator) the most overly complicated and overly engineered candy dispenser, maybe ever invented; this unique kinetic sculpture lives a double life- it also has the added function of dispensing candy.
This sculpture was designed using Solidworks. The main engineering challenge for this project was to create a decoupling clutch mechanism so the conveyor could spin independently from the candy dispensing mechanism. This allows all the candy on the the conveyor belt to be cleared into the candy dish without more candy being dispensed. This means lots of 3D printed gears, including bevel gears and spur gears, and a 4 bar linkage to control the clutch. This is so much more than a candy dispenser! It also serves as demonstration of how you can 3D print functional mechanical mechanisms with style and ease.
The file download is available here and can be 3D Printed without the need for any tools:

Although i have not printed your design (yet) since i have no 3D printer (again, yet...), your design does looks very satisfying to assemble and play with. The complexity, the clips clipping, the shapes of the parts... Remind me of those plywood toys that you have to assemble

Fantastic video! Interesting to see the various solutions you came up with to make a nice 3D printable model. The most useful part for me were the "C clamps" for retaining the axles - a very elegant solution for the problem - going to have to add this to my bag of 3d modelling tricks. Subscribing while the channel is still relatively small, because with this kind of high quality content I can see you going places. :)

Got this and assembled it. And as a fellow mechanical engineer I found it lacking. The dispenser should have a mechanical one-shot. THEN it could truly be called over-engineered.

Totally amazing! But The Most Over-Engineered is a high bar to set especially on the internet. Now if you put on a vision system and sorted out just the green M and M's that could put you over the edge.......

isn't this using non food safe filament, plus having moving parts that generate microplastic dust that gets on the candy?
