#3DPrinting #Piano #Awesome
The Grand piano is an almost Fully 3D-printed (except for screws, pins, and felt sheets) model with playable keys using accurate action mechanics and functional pedals.
Rods are used instead of guitar/piano strings because 3D printed plastic material can't handle the total string tension and will creep under continuous tension force. Hence tuning will drift, and parts may also fail over time.
There are 24 keys (shy of 2 octaves due to the missing 3rd C), and the reason is to keep the dimension within a specific envelope to ensure a minimum number of split parts that can be printed on a Prusa Mini bed size of 180x180mm.
Printed on Prusa Mk3s & Mini
Filaments used:
White : Esun White PLA+
Brown : Esun Beige PLA+
Glossy Gold : Prusament Viva La Bronze
Matte Gold : Filamentum Gold Happens
Copper : Eryone Silk Copper PLA
Total Print Time : 240 Hours
Total Filament Consumption : 3kg

This is astonishing. The middle pedal system is totally unecessary, means you did it not for acoustic but simply modeling purposes. You are a genius

Why do you think it's unnecessary? Wouldn't be the damp pedal in your way of thinking unnecessary too?
@GarGlingT
@GarGlingT Жыл бұрын
I think left pedal is unnecessary because it has one rod(string).
@kylinor3025
@kylinor3025 8 ай бұрын
Actually I learned about pedals last week in my Piano Technology class, and they made a really good sostenuto pedal(one of the options for the middle pedal)! Sure it's not very effective because of how they had to make the strings, but the principle is still there and it functions how it would in a grand which is indeed astonishing 🤩 It is as unnecessary as the sustain/right pedal

Pretty brilliant how you were able to make the design trade offs to get it SO functional in a printable design

Thanks! It was challenging to say the least. The entire keyboard mechanism was not scaled proportionally to the rest of the piano since I intend to keep the keys at a "Playable" size. It was a vast constrain on the Action mechanics, but I'm happy with how it turned out in the end!

This is really a nice piece of artwork because of the passion you used to design and build and film this. I think my favorite part was the keyboard cover because it was the easiest, lol. A little microcontroller and solenoids or vib motors to activate the keys would be my next task and I would then use it as an alarm clock... and a dinner bell.

BTW, do you have a laser 3D printer for metals? It would be cool if you could almost FULLY 3D print nearly everything for projects that need it, including the metal parts (obviously, beyond simple sticks, nuts and bolds). You can buy metal alloy powders that are melted layer by layer by the 3D printer with a laser.

Absolutely amazing work. The only think I don't like is the elastic band that holds the string rods. Around here they perish quite quickly and would need replacing often. Or do you have a solution for that (silicone bands, or something?).
