HOLY CRAP THAT'S 3D PRINTED?! That looks damn near industrial use, unlike all the little "functional demos" people make. You could apply ferrous paint (or even printer ink!) around the core to at least give it a magnetic coating. Would improve magnetic PLA even more!

so make your own, Robert Murray-Smith style, and some of his ink as the base conductor kzbin.infovideos oc if people started printing/casting actual useful blanks (v track,fasteners,mostly printed/cast blocks etc) as tests then all the better as you can pass them to people that might actually use them as a starting base

Did you have any experience with winding brushless motors before making this video? You did a great job either way, but I'd be even more impressed if this is your first time. Your wire management skills were great. The only thing I think you may have gotten wrong was the polarity of the magnets. At around 11:40 you have all of them connected side by side, and you label them all N-N-N one side, S-S-S other side - you assume they are all facing the same direction. This is not correct. They are alternating polarity. It should be N-S-N-S if you have them connected that way. Opposite poles are holding together. If they all face the same way, they will repel. For your next motor, please consider making a replication of Joseph W Newman's motor. There is a documentary available on KZbin titled Joseph Newman which tells his story.

Make a plinth that holds the motor winding frame into a centered position, then, using hollow paper wound pens, snaked unto the wire, you wind it from two spools either side of the plinth. The paper pens (the eco kind made from tightly winding recycled paper) will help you achieve a lot better windings, which is quite important when making your own motor.

It doesn't start by itself because there are no hall sensors to tell the ESC what position it's in. By spinning it to start it, this action tells the ESC by means of EMF what position it's in so it can properly align the timing sequence and thus full rotation.

At 11:23, you mark the magnets all with N on one side and S on the other side, so N is next to N on one side, and on the other, S is next to S. They are clearly attracting each other, but wouldn't that make them repel?

@isettech
@isettech 4 жыл бұрын
If you removed the small magnets, it might work better due to the non magnetic PLA. Reduction of magnetic filed is undesirable. Try it. Marking the magnets on the table is counter to prior knowledge. Like poles repel. Magnets lined up in a row on the table would be NSNSN, not NNNN and SSSS. Try it. Line them up as shown on the table. If the marking is actually correct, removing any single magnet from the middle would result in no change in attraction when the gap is slid closed, but I suspect removing one then the gap would repel an attempt to close the gap as you would have indeed a N against N or S against S. Tape a long sewing thread on one magnet to the end. Hang the magnet by the thread so it hangs vertically. Hang it away from walls, floor, etc. Possibly outdoors. Paint the side of the magnet facing North Red. Use that to identify the poles on the remaining magnets. Like poles repel. The side that repels the red side it North. (yes the north pole of the earth is actually a south pole magnetically. Magnets are marked as North seeking as in the side that seeks North. Not many people would notice the north magnetic pole of the earth is actually a South seeking pole as a magnet. Models of the earth showing a giant bar magnet in the earth with the North marked N or Red are actually wrong. Think about it. Like poles repel. Most people do not realize this fact.

Hello @ELECTRONOOBS Hello Everyone I'm currenctly building this build and I have a question. When you prepare the copper, how long is the distance between your 2 turning points. I thaught since it should be 5 m long I did 5meter and winded i 6times. Long story short, now my spool weighs around 110 grams and When I would cut them to solder, I would have 12 single strain for one cable? Is this right or was it meant to be 2.5m and then do combine both so you have only 6 strains on each end of the cable? Calculated like 2.5*2*6 = 30m?

Without magnetical material in the rotor huv withe the coil you actually will made a cogging free motor, perfect suatible for high performance actuators how not suffer from the sticky effekt and make unlinearity betwheen current and force. Perfect for high acuracity precision in angular control. Also for every low power generator self starting Wind turbin for example it would be suatible (easy self starting at low wind speed, no stick effect no cogging). So there is some benefit with iron free coil hub, even if it not as high peak power as with iron rotor.
