would heating the warped parts up with a heat gun to reshape the parts by hand. I know that this works with some filaments and in 3d pens, so I wonder if it would've worked for you. really glad I found this series.

I have had some limited success with a heat gun on other projects, so that might have helped some of the warping here. But the best thing is to not have warping to begin with. With the printers I'm using now I get very little to no warping, so it's not really an issue anymore.

i had made my own r2 body frame. i had the same warping problem but i figured as long as it was sturdy it didnt matter after i glued them together, though i am having troubles with the rest of the build being as most of the parts are for a 200mm bed where as mine is 190mm. im currently working on designing my own dome as im building an r4 droid

Awesome work!! I'm my self almost done with the body, definitely had issues with lifting as well but learned using helper discs on the edge corners of each piece fixed it a lot. But I also have a delta printer so I was able to get the beams printed upright. Keep up the work your videos have helped me greatly

A heat gun can be used to carefully straighten the long thin pieces.

I suggest you put some money into a headed print bed, it allows the product to remain evenly heated and lessen the effects of the warping

Thanks, I already have another printer with a heated bed now. Although I did find that combining glue stick with Buildtak actually got rid of 95% or more of my warping issues on the old printer.

Between the 3D printing of the head and the body including the legs of R2D2, how many rolls of PLA filament do I use to get an idea of ​​the money spent just on printing?

Honestly I don’t remember but the cost of the filament was relatively minor, especially since filament isn’t as expensive as it used to be

But I did have some printer issues that I have only recently sorted out, so that did delay me some. I will be making more videos about this project relatively soon

right i know this video is super old and you might already know this trick but just incase. If you bump into a lot of warping on flat parts i reccomend a hot bath for them it makes the plastic more plyable letting you bend it and flatten it against something to fix it. sorry for typoes i havent slept yet at its 6 am xD... happy printing!!

Thanks. You're right, that would probably have helped. I've largely solved the problem of warping now through a combination of build tak and glue stick.

Possibly, but the best solution is to just print them properly in the first place. Now that I have better printers this wouldn’t be an issue

Yes, I'm using the first model of Dremel 3D Idea Builder. Good luck with your build. It's a lot of work, and I'm still kind of stalled at the moment.

hey, do you by chance have the 123D file(s) for R2's dome? I'm also doing the skeletal version like James but I don't want the R6 head. I'd like to take the R2 dome and make it skeletal if that makes sense. Keep up the great work. Mine taken me a couple of years or so due to printer issues.

Yes, the process is a long one...no matter what path you take. Mine is a combination of wood, aluminium, and 3D printed parts. The build just ticked over 1 year last week. I'm at about 50%. EEEK!!

I'm actually considering scrapping this frame and just starting over with the V2. (I'd still keep the dome and the one leg that I've finished.) It just seems simpler and better thought out for 3D printing. But I don't have any experience with it yet, aside from printing a few test pieces, so I can't really say for sure which is better.

Mighty Jabba's Collection I'm going to print it with the xyz junior I just spent the last week cutting most of it up so I can print it on the smaller print bed. It's going to take a very long time but I'll do my best and it will be worth it. And yeah your dome looks fantastic so that's what Im going to make first.

what siz is your build plate that you using?

It's 9” x 5.9” x 5.5” or 230 mm x 150 mm x 140 mm. There are actually a couple of parts that are too big for the build plate, but I was able to slightly extend it with some cardboard since it's just a matter of millimeters.

+John Batchler I used the Dremel 3D Idea Builder, but I wouldn’t recommend it because it lacks a heated bed and that led to some warping issues. I recommend the Creality CR-10 now because of its size, quality and price

Oh and also don't buy 3D Printers that either cost more than £200, and especially don't buy any machines from companies that don't specifically do 3D Printers and have just added them to their product line, go with people who essentially sell printers and not companies joining the hype
