This is very good. The Final result can be a lot clearer if the base coat is clearer. As can be seen the black gloss coat is very uneven which is why the reflections isnt so high. The just protect it with your choice of 2k clear like was done as graphite just rubs off while wearing it.

I live overseas and can’t find this exactly graphite powder. Any graphite powder will do the trick or this cretacolor is made specifically for coating? Thanks

Hi. What did it look like once the clear coat dried? I used Hycote chrome over their gloss black and it looked amazing but the chrome marks every time you touch it so I applied their clear coat over it and my heart sunk as did the chrome particles and it turned dark grey.

You don't clear coat it. You just apply more powder over time if needed

I tried the whole graphite powder trick on my helmet and did all the right steps but my chrome came out way to dark almost like a gunmetal gray, any fixes?

There are 2 different Graphite out there. One is called black.

great work! i have a project that i need a chrome look for.. i was thinking about trying Duralumen Chrome Paint, but this has such a nice look to it.. have any thoughts on how i could possible achieve a golden look using this method?

try a orange or yellow undercoat

Hi, I loved the video. I have a question, I hope I can solve it. Before using the Graphite Powde, what previous steps should I do? I mean, I think the helmet is painted black? Is it metallic black or what is it? All the best

Thanks :) No problem. In short, once you're totally happy with the body work 9filled all the gaps, nice and smooth, etc) then its gloss black base coat/primer followed by the graphite. I used Hycote Gloss black.

hey its kinda awhile now so im not sure if u are gonna reply to this but what should be done after graphite powder? should i pat it dry? tack cloth it ? rinse it or what should i do before applying the clear coat

I used some cotton pads to rub the graphite into the helmet. The graphite does stick, but any rubbing or washing would probably just remove most of what you've put on. I personally left it to settle for 20 mins or so and then added a spray clear coat (really light coats). As I've said to others, if in doubt, work on a test piece first. It's extra sanding and time, but you can get the mistakes out the way there.

Would doing multiple layers with clear cost and graphite make a difference?

It's possible, and definitely worth a try. If you're gonna have a go, I'd suggest printing and finishing a test piece alongside your main helmet/etc. Having a fully sanded and ready to go test piece can give you an excellent idea of what the finished product will look like.

How is the clear coat holding up? Also what did you use for the visor?

The clear coat is looking good, although my helmet has only been on display and not worn. It is Hycote XUK0232 Clear Lacquer. I'd recommend testing on small areas, or even on a separate test piece first, as lacquer will dull the shine of the graphite a little.
