@@erin.anderson Her costume ended up being pink, purple, and silver. My daughter changed her mind about the unicorns once she saw all of the armour together. We might put some stickers on it at some point though! If I knew how to put a pic up on here I would, it turned out pretty awesome!

I’ve been using my left over silicone for mixing for years. Works great for paint, bondo, pretty much anything. They also work good for holding pins, or any sharp pointy tools.

I love the idea of using the leftover silicone as a mixing pad. For really small amounts I like to use the bottom of one of those tiny paper cups, works great and keeps it all contained

Great job on the buckets! If there's one thing I could recommend, it's to think about some foam padding for the inside of the helmet so that it sits a bit higher on your head and doesn't wobble and twist around when you turn. Awesome stuff!

I learned so much new things here. Prusaslicer for dividing an stl, acrylic putty for smoothing a print, the thin tape for masking etc. Really nice to be able to learn from your experience!

I never have done one of these because I just don’t like the idea of having to glue/acetone pieces together, but your video made this feel a whole lot easier to manage and complete than I was originally expecting. Great job, that was awesome to watch start to finish. We're hoping to add more functionality to the cut tool in PrusaSlicer in the near future. Although the fact that you have to rotate the parts first before you cut it actually kinda makes sense, because that's most likely the orientation you will want to print them.

Very cool! I like to see the problem solving as part of the video. Speaking of which, you can use a hair dryer to shrink the vinyl around compound curves. Increases conformity and reduced cutting.

Awesome stuff! I've made mine in a very similar fashion. It's through you I discovered the 3m glazing putty and I absolutely love it! I'm currently prototyping an arduino powered motorised range finder for the helmets. Do you do want one when I finished the final product?

This turned out great! For the liquid masking you can buy a little square to remove it easier. If you end up using liquid masking more it will save you time and headaches. Any art store should have some!

I absolutely love my PRUSA Mark 3is. I’ve just completed printing all the armor, helmet, blaster & Alban rifle for my Mandalorian outfit and glued & sanded all the armour. The slicer makes it so simple to cut the big pieces & then glue them back together for a perfect fit. I’ll be using a technique that involves graphite powder to make the armor & helmet look like Beskar vs painting with Alclad silver like a lot of folks do - it results in a mirror like finish but you cannot put fingerprints on it ….

I use a soldering iron on low to melt pla together. You can use scrap pla and weld additional material as well and then sand.

Man, those helmets are cold. I love the black and gold color on your son's helmet. I also think that the combination of the chipped-paint and slight-weathering highlights really make it look authentic. Looking forward to seeing more cool Star Wars-based props.
