great design. If you want a font where the letters are the same width find a programming font.

OUTSTANDING!!! Great idea! My only problem is I need numbers for ham radio call signs. Will numbers be available?

How about ventilation holes? I mean have you tried to keep the lights (at max brightness) on for the long time( 8 hours). Is there any plastic deformation from the heat expected? May be putting metalised type on the back?
@TheSkjegg3 ай бұрын
Good point, I had them on for quite a while but not with full brightness. I now have my Billy sign all at rgb(255,255,255) on my desk and will keep it on for the rest of the day. I'll let you know the result.
@TheSkjegg3 ай бұрын
I left the sign on for a whole day, full steam.. it generates heat of course, but not that much.

Sorry for asking, but i am trying to find the LED in the UK. Would you have the full technical name of that item. Would help in searching for one.
@TheSkjegg2 ай бұрын
Sure, try searching for ws2812b individual addressable rgb led strip. Make sure to get the 60 led's per meter variant.

Made my first sign yesterday & today, "WA6YBD" my ham radio call sign. All and all it went well. I did have several problems but I was able to over come most of them. My printer is a Bambu lab X1C. I printed everything in PLA. 1) The slip and fit joints for the cubes are too tight. I removed ~.75 to 1 mm per side of the center tab that joins the cubes together. 2) The fill letters (in my case ) were too large to fit the cubes. I corrected this by scaling them down in the slicer to 99%. 3) The fill letter "A" does not fit the cube at all. May even be the wrong font. 4) The hanging down blackout tabs for the letters "W & Y" are too large to fit into the fill letters. The tabs did not fit even before I scaled them down. I was able to correct this by filing each tab to fit. 5) The radio fill does not fit the build cube. It is too tight all around. I was not able to scale it down and make it fit . Today my LED strip and uP. arrived. Now its off the see if I can get the electronics to work. I cannot begin to imagine the number of hours you have invested in this project. Thank you for making it available to the rest of us.

Great that you're already building, love it 😊 However all your problems with scale are no good.. I'm printing with PETG and Prusa MK4, had no such issues. Of course it's a tight fit, but it works. Must be either a diff between the printers, or the filament. I haven't tried PLA yet, will do so tomorrow and report back to you. Btw what layer height did you use?
@billmelody86183 ай бұрын
hi I used 0.15 mm and then tried my default 0.28 mm. I have some PETG black but no transparent. I did get everything to fit except the "A" fill. It looks like the wrong font. The letter is too skinny and does not fill the opening in the block. @@TheSkjegg

@@billmelody8618 I just downloaded the files from Printables, opened "A" fill and box in PrusaSlicer, and positioned them on top of each other. By moving the a fill up Z axis its a perfect fit with the box (as expected, the fills are cut out by using the boxes in Fusion360). Actually I printed a "A" myself today, no issues. Ok, I'll let you know my results of PLA prints.

@@billmelody8618 I now printed the "A" fill and box in PLA, and it fits. Had to fight a bit with the small triangle insert, but it works. So I really don't understand your issue. Stupid Q, did you use the "Å" fill?! Ah, just realized Printables names the ÅÅ as AA when downloading all files as zip..sorry, weird Norwegian letters you know 😅 Try downloading the single A stl!
