A friendly suggestion on the coupler and that is do not print it like a tower but instead on its side. All of my couplers failed at a seam line due to twisting forces but if the layers are perpendicular to the twisting force it can't twist off. I would give that a try. I hope that helps.

Simon, your videography (recording and post-processing) keeps improving. From taking the servo mount off the F360 screen, to your perspective face shots, to the drone footage with helicopter sound effect, the whole video was fantastic. Oh, and the RC boat design, 3D print, integration, build and test were incredible, as well! Have an awesome day!

A really simple yet effective coupler is nothing more than a piece of fuel tubing. I bought a brass coupling, but then had to make up a TPU bush to allow the allen screws to nip the shaft without rocking off the shaft - the shaft is polished stainless-steel. Tubing is best from what I can tell.

I have a little experience in RC Boats. I REALLY hope that you do the 'upgrade' and give us a video of that. A metal prop and shaft coupler would let you go FULL THROTTLE. However, this is impressive, just the way you did it.

Awesome boat! To be racing ready you should get a metal propeller, metal coupler, put bearing to hold the shaft, use a metal (or only plate in between your plastic one) motor support (may melt otherwise). Some watercooled for motor and ESC would make it holding the power overtime

Awesome build. The first thought I have for the coupler between the shafts is some kind of aquarium tubing, the air line tubing or something like it. This would not only connect the two shafts together, but would provide a bit of shock absorption, and vibration dampening for the motor.
@paulmason68473 жыл бұрын
Really nice job there, you can buy a universal joint coupling with changeable fitting on both ends fairly cheaply, this will also help with reducing friction from miss-alignment between motor and shaft that you get from a solid coupling, i am amazed the 3d printed prop held together, well done.

Technically it's just a normal boat with a propeller partially inside and not a real jet boat. I think if you get an aluminum coupling and propeller you will not be bottlenecked by the 3D printing. Because of the fact that it's not a traditional jet boat I think you will also find the propeller pushing air instead of water when you go higher speeds. Absolutely loved the video as always.

I want the same boat, but small enough to print in one piece on an Ender 3. Yes, it will need smaller electronics, I know that. Also, try using sealed bearings at the point where the propshaft enters the hull, at the point where it exists the hull, and at the point in the black jet housing. Pack between the two hull bearings with something like petroleum jelly ("Vaseline") to keep water seeping though the hull there. I also suggest even a really low "windshield" immediately in front (and maybe down the sides) of the slide in cover. Just a little ramp-shaped 'lip' on the red plastic part.

Great build and video. For a smaller printer, you could print the bow area as a hollow sealed unit with locating pins and matching indentations in the aft section. That way both halves should line up perfectly and give flotation without any weakness.

Great video and build project. I love and scratch build my own RC Jet boats too. Just a couple of notes for you though, 1: On water jet drives it is an impeller, not a propeller. 2: On Jet boats the steering is provided by the "Steering Bucket", it is not a "Rudder", a rudder is a fin that Redirects water being pushed by a 'propeller' or flowing past it. Both result in a torque force on the transom that changes where the nose/bow is pointing. There is great satisfaction in building one yourself and having it actually work yes? Keep up the good work.
