3D Printed VAWT

A vertical axis wind turbine primarily made with 3D printed parts. However, the wings are reinforced with wooden dowels, the arms are from 1/8" x 3/4" aluminum bar stock and the main shaft is an 8mm dia rod. The turbine is 400mm in diameter and 640mm tall. The airfoil is a NACA0020 with an 80mm chord rotated at angle of 9 degrees trailing edge inward.

It's modeled after Lynx Winds Gull which had an 8 degree AOA. Which worked well when I made mine. I like the way it fits together . Well thought out. I just hope the bearings remain weather tight.

at least the bearings are cheap and easy to replace even if they do wear; looks like a 15 minute job all in

@@MickEMaus3000 The point where the wing attaches is probably the weak point; if you print any more maybe you could flare that area out along the chord a bit on each side with maybe a 1" radius

sweet looking unit Michael! Should get you around 30W? Very nice engineering on the unit as a whole!!! I'd buy one; sure brightens up a cold snowy winters day 🙂I think 9 degrees is a couple or 3 too many but I'm sure you've thought it out

Nine degrees is just what I scaled off the plans printed on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. I did not realize it was supposed to be 8. I would also prefer a few less, but it seems to work okay. Maybe someday I'll print off a new set of wings. 🙂
