I am considering a vertical axis wind turbine that looks exactly like a tree, I call it : e-tree, the trunk of the e-tree is brown, the spinning blades are green, attached to the trunk of the e-tree are features of : wifi/mobile network, light and power outlet, to charge a car for example

Run the center post all the way to the top as an elliptical cone. Keep the top open to vent capture air upwards. Build your outer wings thick at bottom and as they get closer to top decrease thickness. This creates air flow gradient bottom to top.

The wings you use should be bigger. Also, bldc motor is good for high speed energy production. You should use something like a stepper motor instead :) I liked the modularity of the parts.

@@MickEMaus3000 Thank you for the prompt response. I just watched the other video you put the link to. I have a better understanding of the concept. I am not knowledgeable in the "Bird wing" concept but I do have one thought/recommendation to transfer more motion to the stepper motor. I think if you decrease the distance from the bottom of the wing to the stepper if would transfer the motion more efficiently. The stepper would also serve as a more controlled "pivot" point. I am in no way trying to act like I know anything about this. It is truly an interesting concept. Good luck I look forward to seeing how it progresses. (new subscriber gained)

Alternators are 110 AC. They have rectifiers built into them to make them 12VDC. If you run that out and rectify it back to 110. You are wasting time. Just pull the rectifier modules off the alternator and it will be 110AC when spun at the right RPMs it will be 60 Htz. Why mike out the shaft? were you putting a different drive system on it. Check the threads bud. Thats the main thing. Its probably metric.

The rotor has the magnets not the stator. The stator has the 3 phase winding. If the rotor had the windings you'd need it to have 3 slip rings. Being permanent magnet means there are no slip rings or brushes to wear out.

Instead of using a gearbox to achieve the required voltage, maybe you can use a step-up transformer. No moving parts
@MickEMaus3000
@MickEMaus3000 2 ай бұрын
One possible problem with a step up transformer is that the transformer is like a short circuit until the turbine is spinning and working at frequency. So it acts like a brake. Maybe there could be a switch of some sort that connects the generator when the turbine is up and running.

Get one of those screwdriver magnetizers/demagnetizers that have a rectangular hole and a trapezoidal hole, some are very weak when it comes to magnetizing because their magnets are the cheapest ones but still do a good demagnetizing job.

The wave form looks very noisy almost triangular not sinusoidal, this is largely due to pole shaping of the rotor, this being a modified vehicle alternator, the 3 phase output is normally bridge rectified anyway so they are not too concerned about output cleanliness here.

It seemed to clean up a bit when I spun the turbine a little faster, but yes, it looks more triangular.

You meant to say, "pretty strong magnet in the rotor" as there is only one ring magnet in this alternator that takes the place of the original wound rotor coil and absence of slip rings aswell.

Cool, im experimeting with a fan motor for a hydro generator. I wish i could get 6v peak to peak spinning with my fingers, it only gets .150-.200v.. So i had the idea to boost it with a boost converter and just get up the voltage that way. It has the amps to back it, just not the speed, and thats all the boost converter needs is the amps to convert to votlage. Although im not sure .150v is enough for any boost converter, not the one i got anway. But in your case, i wonder if you could just feed the output of that motor to one of those aliexpress 400w boost converters for $5 and get up to 14v that way and be done with it. You lose like 15% in these converters but.. it quick and thoughtless. By the way those $5 boost converters are only good for 100w in reality i hear.
@MickEMaus3000

I don't think it is a washout. I'm working on another one. I think this little one had too low a solidity and was not set up very well (I didn't balance it very carefully). It spins okay, and has no problem starting. And I think it would have produced more power with more windings on the coil. (It did not help that we had very little wind for weeks though)
