Regarding text not being legible/coming out clean with a 0.4 mm nozzle, for raised text you can always reduce the Outer Wall line width. I was printing some coins with raised text on them and had to reduce the outer wall line width from the default of 0.42 to 0.35. Once I did that the text became legible. Reducing this size is baked into reducing the nozzle size. For imbedded text I would have to do some testing but I am pretty sure a similar tweak to the wall sizes would help those as well w/o having to drop down to a smaller nozzle size. I designed my model with the 0.4 mm nozzle because that is what 90+% of people are using/have, and I wanted to make my design as adaptable as possible to what they have.

That is a very good point about adjusting the outer wall line width. There are certainly things you can do to improve quality on both ends with this, but this video was to show the advantages and disadvantages of different nozzle sizes. Whilst you can tweak settings to print finer details with a 0.4mm nozzle than as standard, you're always going to be able to print even finer detail with a nozzle a quarter of it's size.

How do you know when you nozzle worn out?
@3DRevolution

You'll start to experience inconsistent extrusion on your prints, possibly a little oozing or blobbing too. It will vary a little depending on the type of material you're printing with.

Other than cost, is there any reason to stay with a stainless nozzle instead of swapping to a hardened steel?

Going 0.4 to 0.2 the aera deposed is 4 time smaller. -> Factor 4 you found in your experiment. Going 0.4 to 0.6 aera is increased by 2.25. So around the factor 2 for time spend. The limit is however the max flow rate your hotend allows.

Appologies yes I didn't explain well in the video. I meant a 0.4mm nozzle is double the diameter of a 0.2mm, but I never fully explained that the area is then 4 times bigger. I'll be sure to mention this in a future video, thanks for highlighting.

I discovered one more use case for quick change nozzle. I am changing them per material type. It seem to reduce clogging issues. More testing needed…

Ooh, very interesting idea, thanks very much for sharing! It sounds like you've found a great way to overcome your problem, but if you still get the occasional clog, have you seen my video on cleaner filament: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGm3ipaGZ5J8m7csi=iEHrbVBy4CgKy_jg

I print almost everything at 0.16mm layers height. With a 0.6mm nozzle. You should try that for your dragon.

You absolutely can print lower layer height with a larger nozzle. I was more foccusing on amplifying the advantages of each. But yes, it's absolutely a spectrum and you can tweak the settings to get the quality and speed that work for you!

Haha well the appropriate IPD setting on my VR headset would definitely suggest my eyes are a very average distance appart. But either way, thank you for choosing to stare into my eyes, like and subscribe for more of them in the future.
