3D Printing an Advanced Supersonic Ramjet Engine

Ramjets have always been the simplest form of jet propulsion, with no moving parts. Increasing speed to the near hypersonic regime, however, presents multiple challenges in ramjet design, from cooling to flame holding. Jay Blake of Velo3D has designed a very sophisticated demonstrator 3d printed engine that may pave the way to low cost high supersonic propulsion.

How do you ensure high fatigue strength and the deal with porosity?

Porosity is not a problem in 3d printing

Great question, Tan. Each print includes test "coupons" that can be dissected to measure actual material properties of the print layer by layer.
