Genuinely thank you so much for making this series. I'm getting into 3D printing for the first time, and so much information out there is outdated, disputed or just no longer applicable. Much of it is also piecemeal, so it's hard to get a full picture. This has really made an actual difference for me in my understanding.

That's awesome! I am trying to make things as clear as possible.

This is a great video. I've actually been helping a few people with their very first 3D printers and learning how to set their Z offset is the first lesson I advise they really pay attention to. A few of them have "fully automatic" printers and they complain that they shouldn't even HAVE to mess around with the offset. I try to get them to understand that knowing how the whole process works will help them understand why things go wrong and what to do when they do go wrong...and they WILL go wrong eventually. Too many people are happy to live in ignorance and rely on someone else to rescue them and I find that wholly unacceptable. When I'm helping someone I do not just do it for them. I show them how to do it themselves. "Teach a man to fish" as it were. If they resist and just insist that I do it then I tell them that they need to find someone else to help then because I am not the right person. They don't actually want to print they just want 3D printed stuff. I try to get them to understand that knowing how the printer works and why things happen will make the whole thing so much easier later on. Sadly, people are becoming increasingly lazy and entitled and they just don't want to put in the work. They only want the end result and get upset when they can't simply have it. They don't want to cook a meal, they just want to heat up some instant noodles by pressing some buttons on the microwave and then they get upset that it still took 20 seconds.

I am glad you are out there fighting the good fight. I try to do my part by educating, but it's not as affective as I would like it to be, but I keep trying.

@@ChrisRiley Brother...it ain't easy. lol But it is worth it. If it helps you have helped me in the past so as far as I'm concerned I'm just paying it forward.

Hello Chris great vidéo as always. May I suggest that you add in your basics sessions one regarding the full calibration of a new filament in the context of the prusaslicer ? Prusa is providing profiles for their prisa ment. But what to do when you want to buy another brand that usually does simply provide a range of temperature ? There is a ton of parameters How to make a good and comprehensive calibration. Orca is providing for instance things but not going into all details. Thanks in advance

Thank you! Great suggestion, that can be a pain. I will see what I can work up.

Another method, which has worked for my very well on my old (modified) Artilery Genius printer and Prusa Mk3 printers is to print a 50mm x 50mm square with just three perimeters and a height which matches the layer height in the slicer (e.g. 0.3mm). I then use a caliper to verify that the thickness of first layer height is 0.3mm or more. The thickness will typically vary 0.05mm if measured in different places. I theory this method should always work, but I found on some printers I have to add a little extra thickness to avoid the print sticking too well.
@ChrisRileyАй бұрын
That's a great way to do it for sure. Thanks for sharing the info.

Hey Chris, my Prusa was playing up a year ago. Finally got it going again (dodgy sensors) only trouble is I can’t remember if it’s a mk3 or mk3s lol. Is there an easy way to differentiate them? Cheers for the video, hope you had a good Christmas and have a happy new year.
@ChrisRileyАй бұрын
The easiest way is to flip through the kits and see what you are missing. www.prusa3d.com/product/original-prusa-i3-mk3-s-to-mk3s-upgrade-kit/ I hope you are having a good holiday season as well. Thank you!

Assuming the Y axis on an mk3 is level is not a great idea imo. The frame is only square if all the screws have the same amount of torque. I use a torque limiting screwdriver to ensure equal torque for things like this but most people don't have something like that, and as such unless they are very careful that Y axis can be a bit off.
@ChrisRileyАй бұрын
You make a great point, but as you state it's out of most peoples control.

It's still around, you can do it with Z or a probe.

I need a break from my prusa mk3.5s upgrade. ugggggg My prusa mk4s uses printed parts it's 100% purple except the interior of the nextruder. My LCD was the old kind anyway but they don't offer injection molding in purple. Well.......this is 100% stock. That includes the injection molded cover. It is a total nightmare screwing that into the base. And everyone was commenting how horrible it was. lol Fortunately my MMU2 is already upgraded to the MMU3. And everyone is saying this was the worst step of the 3.5S.
@ChrisRileyАй бұрын
Agreed, MMU conversion was a lot more work. The purple Prusa sounds awesome.
@awilliams1701Ай бұрын
@@ChrisRiley I love it. It looks great. Meanwhile in 3.5s land.......I'm missing an expansion nut. I was missing 2. I found one. I'm pretty sure this is my fault. I moved on without it. I used an old spacer and a longer screw. If I cant find it I'll order a new one. And now I'm waiting on the wifi cover to print. I was going to use mk4 parts, but the mk4 doesn't have the mk4s wifi cover.

My mk3 won’t go lower no matter if I put the Z as -2 or 2 it won’t change

Great video but I can't wait for the day where it's automated or it's not needed to be performed by the end user.
@riccardosacchettiАй бұрын
On new machines is basically automated. You only have to do once.
