Nice work, super cool to see you making replacements like this! I think there are a few simple changes you could make to beef up the plastic part if it breaks, without having to go to aluminum. You could increase the width of the entire part along the axis of the bar to have a wider clamping area - and replace the short roll pin with a longer pin, or even a screw that fits through the pinhole to spread the force over a larger amount of plastic. On the other side, you can add material to raise up the 'boss' where the flat head of the screw presses into the plastic. This will allow you to make that boss wider as well, so you can use a longer clamping screw with a wide washer underneath to provide a wider distribution of force there as well. Looking forward to seeing more!

Thanks for the good analysis here! So far the clamp has held up well even with the area around the bolt cracking on install. It’ll definitely need replaced to work in hotter weather since it’s just PLA now. When the time comes I’ll have to look into beefing it up and I appreciate you doing some of that work for me already!

Ive got a few 3d printed parts I got some second hand wheels I was able to 3d print some hub axle ends to convert from 9qr to 15ta, with the metal axle supporting it and the plastic just being a clamping and locating surface and me printing in carbon reinforced nylon I think should be well strong enough.

Nice work, what did you model it up in? And I think beyond the part not being as visually nice, being more square with out the draft angles, it’s still gonna work. I’ve always wanted to play with the lost pla but never got around to making the green sand, though I have cast a few bars, and I’ll say that ford engine aluminum is awesome to melt n pour, have yet to get anything but clean material. Couple other things, scamazon prime day kicked the garmin into reality, so I get to play with a 1030 plus. And also cool to see the tech shit you have lingering on your channel too, I played around with linux for a bit, but not being able to have fusion360, was enough to bring me back to windows lol, and no I couldn’t get the whine/can’t think of the cracked scenario to work, so I finally gave in.

Thanks! I used Fusion360 to draw it up. I didn't spend any time trying ot curve the edges or make it look nice since I thought this would just be a fitment test, but it turned out to work well. And that's awesome about the Garmin, it is really nice to have! As for the tech stuff I'm actually in the process of moving that over to my other channel now so that I can keep this channel focused on bikes. I haven't used Linux as a main OS for long, though I've messed around with it in the past. But, for the Plex server stuff and HomeAssistant it works great!
