My recommendation is the XT Shifter, SLX Rear Derailleur, Deore or SLX Cassette, and XTR chain if you can get it for around $50 or less. Otherwise any of the chains will work. I have videos for all of those components as well if you want to learn more! Oh, and SLX cranks! The XT dual piston brake set is my favorite as well. I don’t have a video on that one yet.

Or If it does not work, should I just pair it with the SLX shifter? and what Cssette and chain do you recommend me? and I also forgot to mention the Cranks. Great Video! Sil-Tec was the worst thing to ever happen to consumers. It was created strictly to increase wattage savings at the expense of durability (thanks "marginal gains" roadies!). XTR/Dura-Ace chains used to be full zinc-alloy plated...then Shimano started replacing some of the zinc-alloy plating with Sil-Tec coating to offer reduced friction.

@CLONisKING20 күн бұрын
One thing to consider however is that a harder chain will also wear out the drivetrain quicker, than a softer chain. Having to change Cassette and Chainrings more frequently (especially in the XTR or Dura Ace Tier) would be a lot more expensive. However I don't know the exact numbers, but in principal this should be true. And since the XT chain is now at just 60% of the price of the XTR chain, it is definitely the more affordable option, especially if the rollers wear out the drivetrain a bit less.
@Bikes-with-Ben20 күн бұрын
@@CLONisKING that’s a valid point. And yeah I was looking at the chain prices recently and saw that the XTR wasn’t as cheap as when I made the video so definitely no issues getting any of the other chains if the value is there!

could the mtb shifters be used with road rd ie 105 or ultegra rd's?
@Bikes-with-Ben29 күн бұрын
@@vektr6278 I don’t believe so. The shifters are “indexed” meaning that they pull the cable a specific distance for each gear. Since the cable is connected to the derailleur, it needs to pull the cable a set amount to move the alignment of the derailleur in line with the next gear up and down. If the road gearing had the same indexing as the MTB stuff it would work, I I don’t think they do.

Hey Ben - is there any easy-ish way to use your tool, but just have the Main Dot follow the GPX route within a certain timeframe? I commented before on my long bikepacking scenario, but really I'd simply like to be able to speed up the animation to happen in just 1-2 min for a full day's ride that actually took up to 10-12 hrs in real time. Is there a setting you might point me to to make that happen?
@Bikes-with-BenАй бұрын
@@cameronhrussell I’m trying to remember how the code works. It will provide the spline file based on your actual trip timing. From there you could speed that up to your desired duration. But, I think the best way would be to modify the spline file and replace the timing component of each data point with just a fixed duration. It wouldn’t be too bad to do modify idt. You might be able to modify the code faster than modifying a single spline file.
@cameronhrussellАй бұрын
@@Bikes-with-Ben Thanks for the quick response! Thinking maybe it's an excuse to teach myself some coding and figure out how to use your tool in conjunction with a modifier step that would remove extra points by a certain factor if that makes sense. Then I could reduce the time of the animation, but preserve the stops, etc. that were true to the ride... if that makes sense? Also thinking I could make a file that I could copy that has number of frames and .01, .02, .03, etc and just substitute that if I just want the animation and don't need it to have pauses/pace that was true to the actual ride.

I'm changing from Deore 51t cassette to 45t cassette. The 51t cassette requires a long cage derailleur, but there is a midium cage derailleur better suited for the 45t cassette. For me, choosing the rear derailleur was pretty easy as the XT medium cage happened to be on sale for $78. Doesn't come in Deore, SLX was within $10 of XT price and XTR was double or triple the XT price. I agree with this video, If I didn't have to get the medium cage derailleur, I would've just stuck with the stock Deore derailleur as i see no reason to change it whatsoever unless for compatibility reasons. Now I'll be forced to build a new bike with these extra parts I have 🤷

Hello, thanks for your video. I had the inner freehub bearing that explode at 1000km on my bike (regular bike not ebike). I remplace it, but 1000km later the cassette has some play again so i am buying the bearing just in case... I have the version with 1 bearing + spacer, can i remplace the spacer with another bearing ? have you try it ? just to know if it work, 2 bearing seems more durable than one. This hub seems delicate, i also have a little play in the wheel (i feel it when move the wheel side to side by hand). It's a little play between the bearing and the axle. Not the end of the word, but i doesn't give a solid impression.

Me again to say that i change again the freehub bearing in the pawls side (the 6803) that was bad again after 2000km this time (the original last 1000km). So in order to make this freehub reliable, i put two 6803 instead of one. I try without the spacer (that doesn't fit anymore) and it kind of work : due to the conical form of the axle, the freehub lock in the right place. BUT a little play appear in wheel (the main bearing are not tightly fit on the axle). Before the freehub modification, this little play can be ajust by tighten the wheel to squeeze the bearing and spacer. After the modification, this not possible as there is a void between the right wheel bearing and the freehub. I wasn't confortable with the situation knowing that the bearing were free floating on the axle. So i end up reshaping the spacer : the original spacer is 6,5mm minus the 5mm of second bearing, so i cut/sand the original spacer to 1.5mm. After some test, it work nicely without any play in the main bearing, but it need to be tested in the long run to see if it's more reliable...
@Bikes-with-Ben22 күн бұрын

I have a question about how you'd recommend going about syncing a map like this with video that happens periodically over the course of a longer ride (like 10-12 hrs) - would it make sense to make copies of the fusion composition and just trim it to approximate where on the map the various clips are from? I don't film entire rides, but I do bikepacking/gravel rides and I think this could be interesting to integrate especially as I find new routes on logging/secondary roads in remote areas. Hope that question makes sense and thanks for your work on this!.... EDIT: I realized I could have the full length composition and just place clips wherever they happen on the map, then split the composition in places and remove what I don't need. So I think I'm all set there.
@cameronhrussell2 ай бұрын
I just realized I have another issue too... I was hoping add a baselayer map under the fusion composition, to position it on a map for context, but the shape is quite different than on anything I can find on Google Maps, Garmin, Strava, etc... it's almost as if the gpx shape is stretched horizontally, so it's impossible to line it up. Happy to share some screenshots to explain if you're willing to have a look!
