Fillamentum has launched Fishy Filaments, an exciting range of recycled nylon filaments made 100% from old fishing nets. This is PA6 material, which promises very high strength, temperature resistance and yet easy processing.
In the video, I print test pieces and specimens on my Prusa MK4 testing for the following properties: Tensile strength, bending modulus, notched impact strength and temperature resistance.
The results are then compared with other common filaments such as PLA, PETG, ABS and PP.

I’ve been following this filament since it was released and I think it’s a great idea! The color is beautiful and the filament is durable plus reusing old fishing nets is a win win.

Jantec, your Videos are awesome. Continue with the same formula and you will gather a hugh following. What I like most on your channel is, that you look at new and exciting filaments in detail, which other creators ignore. Keep up the good work. Do you plan to look at natural fiber filled filaments in the future? It would be interesting for me, how ecological they really are, as im not about the impact of the plastic used in these filaments. Thank you so much

Thank you. Such kind words make me very happy and motivate a lot. There are many filaments that I have and will be testing in the future. I guess you mean filaments filled with natural fibres like stone, wood, etc., right? To me it always seemed that these fibres are only used for optics and have no significant influence on mechanical properties. But maybe that's not the case. Do you have a specific manufacturer/filament type in mind?

I love the idea of using recycled materials for 3D printing! There's obviously been the rise of popularity of making your own using PET bottles, but I wonder how well recycled HIPS (polystyrene) could work as a filament. It doesn't seem to be very popular as a filament, but I have heard it prints nicely.

If you could get that nylon to foam in a repeatable fashion, it looks like it would be a nice texture for certain prints

or you could try using "fuzzy skin" instead of using wet filament with all its downsides

These are fantastic videos that you are putting out, you continue with stuff like this and your views and subscriber count will climb fast!! If this costs less than COEX GF for the carbon filled ill definitely be picking some up!

I suspect that they are not using cardboard spools because the glue melts at a low enough temperature to cause problems when drying the whole spool.

Not only that, cardboard takes up moisture easily.

Price price price ... I would love to help recycle more, but it just seems uneconomic. I pay €10/kg for PLA or PETG, around €16/kg for ABS or ASA. That's including taxes and shipping. I do also collect all my failed or otherwise abandoned prints per filament type, but ... there's just no economical way to get a company to take that material and turn it into filament again. Sure, there's Filament Fabrik, but they don't accept stuff from outside Germany (and I am outside Germany) and even if, you then (understandably) need to also buy new material from them, which is far above the mentioned price. So, I'm sitting here with kilos of waste plastic and no recycling solution in sight. One of these days I guess I'll bring it all to the "container park", and pay the €2 for 2m^2 of waste material just to get rid of it. So, what do you guys do with your waste plastic? Are there options I don't know about? As for the fishing net filament ... good idea, but again, if you can't guarantee the color and possibly also have some other degradation compared to new PA filament, then I would expect the price to also reflect this. That it doesn't, could either point to wrong price-setting (which could be corrected) or that the cost of recycling might be too high to make this competitive. Then again, I've never printed PA, so I'm clearly not the target customer ...
