This is my first real project using my new Onefinity CNC. If ya’ll didn’t know, I’m retired from the Navy, and the first half of my Navy career I served on submarines. By far the highest milestone a submariner achieves is when they are officially “Qualified in Submarines”, this allows them to wear the Submarine Breast Insignia on their uniform. Of all the medals and ribbons I’ve received I am most proud of the “Fish” that sits atop the rest. So, for my first 3D relief carving I will be making a set of “Submarine Dolphins”. I did not create the file for these but got it from a website that has many military insignias available. There is a modest cost for the file, but you can produce an unlimited quantity of reliefs.

This was one of the most complete and well presented videos on importing and carving a 3D model. I've looked at several and they all quit just before telling me what I need to know. You video went all the way and cleared things up for me. Thank you so much.

Hi, i realise this is 1 year old now but still among the best demos of wood engraving & very informative.! I have a workbee z1+, works well but i need to improve my settings, i am way too slow right now.

Thanks for the comment. Just keep going, the best teacher is trial and error (usually more error than trial).

Thanks for the video. What I don't really understand is how the roughing effects the finishing. I tried different roughing bits and the finishing always is the same (shouldn't it change depending on how much material there is left after roughing?) Also if I don't select any roughing it also stays the same.
@AndersenWoodCrafts
@AndersenWoodCrafts 2 жыл бұрын
The only thing roughing does is remove the majority of the material in order to save time and wear on the finishing bit. I use a 1/4" bit for roughing and either a 1/16" or 1/32" bit for finishing. As you mentioned, whether you roughout any material or not it has no effect on the finished result.
@dwarni5968
@dwarni5968 2 жыл бұрын
@@AndersenWoodCrafts yeah the finished result should be the same but the time and paths are the same too and that's what I don't understand. The time and paths should change if I have a roughing bit selected or not, but the finishing path doesn't change at all...
@AndersenWoodCrafts
@AndersenWoodCrafts 2 жыл бұрын
@@dwarni5968 Are you using Carveco Maker? As that is the only program I am familiar with. When setting up the tool paths you can change the distance the bit moves over, which will change the number of paths, it does not calculate it automatically by the size of the bit.
@dwarni5968
@dwarni5968 2 жыл бұрын
@@AndersenWoodCrafts thank you a lot for your time, I carved my first relief successfully after breaking the bit on the first attempt. It is not a good idea to run it without roughing first ;)

watch yourself with carveco . I canceled my subscription to carveco with 1 day left (according to the software) and deactivated my software and still got charged. I moved to vcarve pro. I had a lot of issues with carveco took me over a week to find projects window all help files would have this open already. really not under VIEW? then dealing with pocket holes I got mad and said F it and bought V carve pro and i have been happy with vcarve pro Its a heavy price tag but its really worth it.
