Thanks. Very good video. I own a few bows. One of my favourites is my black hunter recurve, 55 lbs. And it was the cheapest one...

I also own both and much prefer the Black Hunter over the Sage. Easier to draw, faster arrow speeds, and looks much better. I currently own two Sage risers and four sets of limbs at various poundages, but have maybe only shot it once or twice since getting my Black Hunter a few years ago.

Put a magnetic rest and plunger on the Sage and be impressed. Add a better flemish string and hunting stabilizer and you have a gem.

I personnaly have a Black Hunter and love to shoot with it, i didn't see of yours was a recurve or a longbow, but mine is a recurve and there aren't those cuts on the limbs. It's p^robably not the same brand as yours, mine is by glurak, but i still love it. Will shoot with it until it broke, and if i can replace something on it if it broke, i will. Love it. ( i also plan to ger more limbs of heavier poundage to be able to hunt, i can't with mine, it's a 25 pound. ) Thanks for the video

Another factor in the Sage's favor, is that the limbs can be placed on other similar risers. I can place my Sage and Journey limbs on a Polaris riser and a metal riser from Farmington Archery called the Epic Helix. The Epic Helix was made to take Sage, Polaris, Journey and Southwest Archery Limbs, and it has a great feeling grip. It shoots great too.

Interesting, ive had a Samick polaris for around 10 years. I have just ordered the sage in 60 pound draw. I now realised I could have just ordered the limbs, however I am interested to see the difference between the risers.? My only concern , although I'm a smallish guy is I have a 32 draw (long arms). There are very few archery stores here in South England to try, ordered online. Im a left hander and although on a limited budget I seem to prefer this style of bow over my friend Hoyt with all the trimmings. For some reason I feel more comfortable shooting bare bow style. I'm using alloy arrows but purchased some Broadheath at around 100grain. Was thinking of either making my own or buying wood. Have not been shooting very much recently and a bit out of touch with things. Fletching is another mind scratcher,! Any thoughts appreciated.

I have just ordered the sage, left handed with 60lb draw. Ive previously used the Samick Polaris. I am using alloy arrows but considering wood shafts. Havnt shot for a few years. Ive ordered 100 grain broadheads. Forgive my lack of knowledge but can i fit these on ash arrows? I prefer bare bow and would like feather Fletching. Any comments needed. From the UK.

I have the black hunter longbow in 40 # and a Samic clone Fleetwood (Celtic) recurve ,green and brown ironwood also in 40# On the scale the BH pulls a true 40# , the Celtic actually pulls 44# . My draw length is 29 “ so I’m a bit over on both. IMO both are beautiful bows , both shoot great . I would have to agree with your findings, I believe that the slightly heavier Celtic is a bit more (forgiving) therefore accurate . But I say a Bit more , not by much . If I do my part and keep my form, both are extremely accurate. Having said that, for reasons unbeknownst to me , I find myself shooting the BH longbow more often. Therefore I must ( slightly ) prefer the Black Hunter longbow to the Celtic. When I say slightly, I mean very slightly,as I love both. Thanks for your opinion.
@davidduvall4846 Жыл бұрын
I love both bows and they both have helped me through my archery journey and you can't go wrong with either, but they both stack at around 28 I think I'm more accurate with black hunter longbow!

The BH is awesome value for someone who shoots instinctive or gap shooting. It doesn't like to String Walk. Even a fixed crawl makes it grumpy. It's a noisy bow. Also I wish the sight window was longer. It desperately needs bow quiver and sights mounting holes as well as a plunger hole. They need to make a Black Hunter Deluxe model.
@puregameplay791611 ай бұрын
Anyone who uses sights or accessories on a longbow is a joke. Just get a compound FFS.

I bought a black hunter riser off ebay and I made it into an ILF riser with a hole drilled for a plunger button. It works really well but I do agree if it had some more mas it would be a better riser. I was only thinking the other day about drilling an insert in the front somehow to be able to add a weight/stabilizer to the front.
@sierraridgereaper Жыл бұрын
Be careful drilling on those bh risers, they are only designed to handle up to 60# because of the dymond wood lamination so any material removal could make it less stable to draw weight.
@alchemicalanarchist Жыл бұрын
The Black Hunter wins on Speed: With a 375 grain arrow you can get 200 FPS with a 40lb 28 inch draw on the Black Hunter. The Samick Sage with the same arrow same 40lb 28 inch draw only does 160 FPS. That is 40 FPS faster for the black hunter. I saw Chrono tests for both Bow setups. That extra speed is a big positive when choosing a bow. A good video to put up would be a chrono speed test comparing both bows in the same vid by speed.

The BH original strings (Dyneema) have very little stretch and almost no creep compared to the D97. There is one problem, their center serving is cheap, and you need to replace it with a better serving thread. The black hunter dyneema string material has no issue at all. I'm tired of dacron strings; they stretch and stretch! You must twist them until the string sounds like a guitar.

Purchased my Sage about 10 years ago, still a love affair. I've since retired, so I have eventually lowered my limbs to #30, but she still shoots smooth and quiet and feels good in my hand. I've taken her hunting, we do target matches, 3D, stumping and just for fun, but shooting my Samick Sage it is all fun.

I have a Sage recurve and a Black Hunter longbow. The hand shock on the Sage is pretty bad and makes it not fun to shoot. I tried different brace heights and it won't go away. The hand shock on the Black Hunter is almost non existent. I much prefer the Black Hunter for that and a multitude of other reasons.

Great video. However my favorite of the two bows would be the Black Hunter. I am lucky to have three of these bows from an earlier stock (of better/original quality; having seen crappy ones bought later by others). I prefer to shoot them around 55 pounds. All three risers are different, with one heavier and (perhaps) more stable. I have been able to shoot tight groups with each consistently. In fact as good as with my Bear Super Kodiak, which is just as heavy or light. And I have shot the Sage too. To me the BH is the better one of the two, also considering its better grip and versus the bulky esthetic and the twang of the Sage. The BH can be made almost silent with rubber padding between limbs and riser and with wool silencers. And using a Bodnik whisper string. I use Easton game getter arrows. A fine combination in my hands which I have used for several years now. And the bows are still intact and shooting great. Cheers and keep shooting straight 🏹

The riser on your sage looks more like the riser on the spyder/black sheep nova than the classic sage. I think the old sage had an even more blocky riser. I have the black sheep nova aka a 64 inch sage clone and I enjoy shooting it but I think I'd prefer the riser on the black hunter as I've got small hands better suited to a thinner grip.

Hi Greg, you mention that the Samick sage is becoming rare, check out Merlin archery U K . They have quite a lot on their stock in numerous powers left and right hand. Their UK price is £89.99. Here in the UK it is totally illegal to hunt with a bow. I don’t have a Samick bow I use Chinese or maybe S Korean take down bow not sure where it was made. The risers (as I have 2 risers) one 24” the other is 20” they are both the same shape as the Sage riser. I have 3 sets limbs and all 3 fit both risers. These limbs make a 68” bow and 64” bow. I much prefer to shoot the 68”. The risers came under name of Core Pulse as did 2 sets of limbs the 3rd Cartel with made in Korea. Of dear I do ramble on a bit, an age thing you know mid 70s. Any ways keep your vids coming.😊

I have both the Sage and Polaris and I prefer the Sage over about a dozen others I've owned on the past couple of decades. I can break the whole thing down and carry it in my quiver (and actually have a few times on hikes that I didn't know the territory). I prefer a meaty riser rather than those slimed down ergonomic kind, there's just not enough there for my big hands. I hope Sammick isn't gone for good, that would be sad. Tgey disappeared once before, maybe its another hide and seek.

Id take the deerseeker coyote over both the sage and the bh. The Coyote is 10 fold the quality of the bh, shoots smoother as well with zero hand shock and the riser is very comfortable to the hand. The sage is decent and has a proven track record but the bh has been copied and rebranded so much and the quality is hit and miss especially on the labeled poundage and riser/limb alignment. I own multiple of all 3 with multiple limb options for each and can say without hesitation, the coyote is a better all around performer and is close in price along with very good customer service. For the money, I'll take the Coyote everyday of the week.
