The mouse isn’t going to be happy with 3d scanners. Very cool tech! Thanks for sharing

I will love to see you making a TPU stuff with the scanned objects.

Now that is something I could use!

I've got plenty of uses for one, but the price tag seriously stings. Perhaps they'll get popular and less expensive in a year or two.

The first scan turned out lumpy due to letting the software close the holes to make it "watertight". The way this happens is the software is left to its own devices to interpret what the surface "should be" based off surrounding surface data. You will be better served to not let the software close the holes but to manually close them using hole fill features or adding in geometry in your cad software if accuracy is important. The limitations with these entry level scanners is the software more than anything. Geometry/texture based scanning caveat is the geometry and texture needs to be sufficient enough for data fit. Things like consistent/smooth/single color surfaces will allow the data to slip on the surface and cause floating/shifted data. Also fast movements will cause floating data. You can see this happen in your second scan. To avoid or minimize this, deliberate and slow movements are needed. Moving around corners is always tricky and keeping the data in the green zone is super critical to avoid this data miss match. This is where use of targets are really nice, because it locates data very well. Just some things to look out for as you go down this rabbit hole. 13 years of 3d scanning experience for inspection, root cause analysis, and reverse engineering for just about every industry. (Space, aerospace, defense, automotive, racing, and even hand carved wooded turkeys). Am happy to help with any questions you may have. I've use similar $400 scanners up to $250,000 scanners at all different functionalities.

I like the idea of a 3d scanner and while this is at a price I could justify I don't think this price level has reached a point to really separate it from what I can do with photogrammetry and a bit of extra effort yet. I think, with the way lidar pricing has come down over the last few years we will get a £/$500 lidar based solution in the near future. Of course, as with any tech, if you hold off today because something better will be released next year we would buy nothing. But for myself, having a good enough photogrammetry workflow for the 2 times a year I really want to scan something, I'm still sitting on the sidelines.

I wonder if I can import the scan output file into Agisoft Metashape?
@Voyajer.Күн бұрын
Probably, metashape supports OBJ imports among others which is pretty much universal.

Wow I did not realise you knew how much youtube paid me, Honestly I can't believe you know the truth of the $ KZbin pays me per video. You can caught me out. I can't believe it. What am I going to do now you know the 12 hours of work that went into making this video will net about $12 in ad revenue this year. I should be ashamed.
