I like your project! Penetration measurement with oil clay is cool, I've been working on a similar project in the past and i will soon increase the firing range a little and make a small ballistic fire test site of about 1~2m.

@@Flasutie When I was in college, I made a recoilless rifle out of a bong stem with a one hit bowl as the back blast breech, firing a shaved down thumb tack 📌 projectile with ground up match head propellent. It punched halfway into the dorm room drywall from 10 feet with a hot load of match head dust. It also worked great for blowing a cloud of stinky match smoke under the dorm room doors of the business major dinks. HaHaaa!! SCIENCE, MUTHAFUGGAS!!!

This is actually really damn unique I am impressed. Im guessing you are using butane combustion to fire the dart? You should look into electrothermal accelerators since they can achieve very high velocities relatively easily if you want to simulate this at more accurate velocities

Maybe there are some websites where you can upload the 3d models and let them CNC an aluminum dart for you. Increase the pressure and see if the 3d printed sabot and fins work well with the aluminum dart.

There is no scope or iron sight, so if I'm only 2m away, it's very difficult for me to even hit within a 5cm circle. That's why I'm going to make a proper firing device(not a gun anyway) sooner or later.

If the propellant is contained within the white bottle, then why does the shell have a casing?

Because it is an APFSDS round. The DS part stands for discard sabot. The sabot allows a round that is smaller than the barrel to be inserted and fired. He is firing a projectile that is smaller than 20mm from a cannon that has a 20mm barrel. The casing keeps the sabot attached to the projectile until loading and firing

i tried to make something similar for my home made muzzle loader i got it to go supersonic although it was no the greatest thing ive made because i had to use metal and the bore of the gun was only around 9mm

Fun fact: There does exist a real apfsds rifle! The Steyr IWS-2000 is a rifle that fires a 15.2×169mm cartridge with a dart!

Hey man look into [taghash]DavidLapoint [taghash]PrimerFields (i cant wait to see what you do with the info because i know once you see enough of what I’m talking about and then allow your creativity to flow....youll come up with some interesting ideas. Likely in many directions. I know that’s the case for me) They are able to basically creat solid state rail guns and even more if you get into plasma. (Plasma...Directing. Harnessing.
