This tutorial is amazing. Most 3D printer 'setup' videos assume you know what all these variables mean, but you've explained them in just enough detail to get me started. Thanks!

As someone who's been fabricating metal in the useful items for over 40 years as well as training others to do the same This is a very good tutorial you've figured out how to explain it to people without over talking it and keeping in mind that they have no idea what it is your talking about And I really like your clever use of the British accent to prevent me from turning off the video the moment you started talking about metric measurements Well done

Thank you, I have been using Prusa Slicer for years but still haven't discovered all of the interactions and different features. I have one recommendation that will be helpful for complete nubs and that is to explain that the filament presets represent a group of default settings that should be sufficient to produce quality prints and normally don't need adjustment. Also that the adjustments available should be used only if the presets aren't adequate for some reason.

Nice video! It seems that prusa slicer is very well thought out. I guess since they print parts of their printers, working with the slicer is part of the companies daily business so they have had an incentive to really nail it and it shows. Seems like I will switch to Prusaslicer

Thanks for making this series of videos. They are great for beginners like me. After slicing the model, you used the sliders on the right side to go through the layers. At the same time, the G-code for each layer was displayed on the left side. How did you turn on G-code display? I could not find anything in the menus to do it. Is it possible to edit the G-code as one goes through the layers? I am trying to print a temperature tower and would like to change the extruder temperature for each level of the tower.
@3DRevolution
@3DRevolution 11 ай бұрын
Hey, really sorry about the late reply. I'm really glad you enjoy the video, thanks for the comment! With the gCode preview, it only plays back when running through the length of each layer. So the slider on the side of the screen takes you through each of the layers, and then when you get to a specific layer, there's a similar bar on the bottom of the screen. As you scrub through that, the gCode will display. For editing gCode, you have a few options, but directly editing in that preview isn't possible. Depending on what you want to do, there's a section under 'Print Settings > Output options > Other' called "G-code substitutions". In here you can effectively do a find and replace on certain commands, figures or content on the gCode. That may be what you're after.

Great video. I have been looking for something like this for Prusa Slicer. I normally use Cura, but sometimes I would like to use Prusa Slicer especially for models that are not water tight. One thing I have noticed though is the estimated printing time in Prusa Slicer is about twice what it is if I slice the model in Cura. I was wondering if you might know why.

I'm going to purchase a Prusa mini plus. Can you please tell me, how do I turn a regular image (say a bird or phoenix) and make it 3d? From 2d to 3d? Excellent video, ty.
@3DRevolution
@3DRevolution Жыл бұрын
Hey, glad you liked the video, and I've no doubt you'll absolutely love your Prusa Mini Plus. Regarding how to convert a standard 2D image into a 3D model, it depends what sort of complexity you're talking. If you just wanted an extrusion of the shape (so a square on a piece of paper would become a 3D cube), then the most direct way is to import it into a 3D design software like Fusion 360, trace the shape and then extrude it into a model. If however you wanted to create a truly 3D shape (for example of a bird as per your suggestion), you're at that point bascally talking about full on 3D design. It does depend slightly on the file type of your image as if it's a vector file (SVG) you won't need to trace it, you should be able to just import it into a CAD application and extrude it.

@3DRevolution
@3DRevolution 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Once you've set your printer up, in PrusaSlicer, go to the 'Printer Settings' tab, and in the 'General' sub tab, the second item down under 'Size and Coordinates' is "Max print height". It's worth noting that this is designated as an advanced setting though so you need to ensure that the Advanced or Expert tab at the top right is selected first for this option to be displayed.

Nice Video I have a model that prints too thin ( shell ) I have tryed adding more perimeters and the shell dosn't alter, in the preview mode, is this the correct way to increase the shell thickness or will it have to be done in the cad drawing.
@3DRevolution
@3DRevolution Жыл бұрын
Thank you, and really sorry for the late reply. I hope you've solved your issue now but if not let's see if I can help. The first thing to check is that the shell thickness is only relevant to a solid object (let's say you just put a solid box in there. If however the model you were slicing was cup shaped, you wouldn't be able to make the walls of the cup thicker in the slicer, you'd want to change your original model.

Make sure you've not already sliced the model. Click on the cube in the bottom left (not the cube made of multiple layers) and try again. If you still can't move it by clicking and dragging it (which you should be able to do), try activating the move tool which is the top tool on the bar on the left (a square with a triangle on each side), and try dragging one of the arrows that appears on your model.

what if the PLA filament i’m using isn’t listed. does that mean it’s not compatible with the printer?
@3DRevolution
@3DRevolution Жыл бұрын
No you can use any PLA. The different profiles of a particular material are just fine tweaks to the settings that allow for optimum printing of that exact filament manufacturer. But regardless, you can just edit the settings to whatever you want. Presets are just timesaving options that set up everything for a known material. But you can also create your own presents

@3DRevolution
@3DRevolution 9 ай бұрын
Hey Robin, when you say it won't show like I have in the video, is it greyed out and unclickable? This is usually because there's some element of your setup that won't work (like your object is not placed on the build plate but off to the side). If you could grab a screenshot of your project, upload it somewhere and link here I can take a look, but I'm not sure how quickly I'll be able to take a look. Just so you know, channel members get access to the 3D Rev discord community, and also a more direct line of communication with me for help, that may be easier than on KZbin comments. However, I am always happy to help anyone on here, members or not. Once you send over a screenshot I'll take a look.

i cant get the z axis on my models to move it seems like its locked but idk how to move it
@3DRevolution
@3DRevolution 11 ай бұрын
Are you trying to move or scale it? If you're trying to move it, are you trying to move it up or down? There are issues with moving something up or down. Up: You can't print something in mid-air so if you drag it up, it will snap back down to the bed. Down: If you move something down, then part of the model will be positioned below the print bed, which also isn't possible. If you wanted to only print the top of something, use the cut tool (I've covered how to do this in a video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJWsan5uoZhrnposi=gMtKj-q_uV--JOeL)

@@jonmiller4952 I've not actually got an Anycubic Kobra, so I'm not 100% certain, but from what I understand, whilst many Anycubics have stayed away from Marlin firmware, the Kobra does use a Marlin derivative. So I think regarding Octoprint, selecting Marlin should be fine.

Can I use the same setting for 3dbenchy?
@3DRevolution
@3DRevolution 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Stephan, sorry for the late reply. This tutorial wasn't really indending to suggest specific settings (more for giving an understanding of what all the settings are so you can choose them yourself) as you'll want to use different settings depending on what printer you're using, what type of filament you're using (and from which supplier), what model you're printing, and what results you want from that model. The 3DBenchy is designed to be intended as a test design to see how your printer runs with certain settings and filaments, so there is no correct settings for that. However, as I mentioned, it also depends what printer and material you're using. If it's your first print, just use one of the presets in PrusaSlicer (making sure you select the correct filament that you're using), and then you can adjust any settings you need to based on the results of that print.

I don't know what's happening when i launch PrusaSlicer. Instead of printer's buildplate i have only white screen. Everything besides buildplate preview remains the same. Can anybody tell be how to fix that?

Hmm that is odd. First thing to check, go to the "Printer Settings" tab at the top and check that our printer is selected in the dropdown box under the tabs. If it isn't select your printer, but if it is selected, or if your printer isn't available as an option from the drop-down menu, select 'Add/Remove printers' and follow the steps to re-add your printer. That should hopefully work, but if it's still not working for you, cou could try re-installing PrusaSlicer as that should solve any issue hidden in the background that's causing this.

@@3DRevolution Unfortunately this does not work too. Maybe its happening, because my printer is Creality ender3 s1 plus and there is only alpha version available. I think its sort of bug and it will get fixed in the future uptades. Anyways, thanks for Your help. Edit: I also tried to reinstall PrusaSlicer like 2 times and this also wasn't working. I guess I'll wait for a while and they're gonna fix it or I'm gonna do something diffrent. Luckily Cura works just fine and i already sliced some files with it.

Can ya use prusa slicer for any FDM printer
@3DRevolution
@3DRevolution 9 ай бұрын
Yes, most slicers aren't printer specific so you can use them with pretty much any FDM printer. On some printers there may be specific functions that are exclusively available to their prefered or own brand slicer, but for the most part, any FDM slicer will work with any FDM printer.

@3DRevolution
@3DRevolution 9 ай бұрын
@@monsterstorm78You can do multi-colour prints. If you're using a single extruder and want to set the filament to request a change on certain layers, you can follow my video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oarVnH2YedGWo6s If you're using a multi-material printer such as the Prusa XL, you need to set up a printer with multiple extruders and assign each colour to each extruder.

Ney Nikolas, sorry for the late reply. Are you still having issues with this? A few things can cause this. The first thing is you need to make sure you select a 'Brim Type' before you can select a 'Brim Width'. Do let me know if you're still having troubles.

How do i start the print???
@3DRevolution
@3DRevolution 10 ай бұрын
It entirely depends what printer you have. For the majority of printers, you don't start a print from the slicer. A slicers job is to take the 3D model, the physical properties of your printer, and your desired settings, and to export a list of instructions for your printer to follow in the form of a .gcode file. For the majority of printers, you then want to take that file, place it on the SD card or MicroSD and inset it back in your printer, turn it on, load the filament you want to use, select the file and start the print. But that process all depends on the make and model of printer you have.

When you say it crashes your printer every time you run this programme, do you mean your printer needs to re-start after booting this programme and it connecting to your printer, or do you mean if you slice a print with PrusaSlicer and run it on your printer, it causes the toolhead to crash into something?

@@3DRevolution sorry, I should be more clear. Whenever I’m done with all my editing and setting up, then I hit the slice button and it starts processing. It gets to about 60 percent through and my screen goes black and the computer does an automatic shut down and reboot!
