Yes it certainly works ... BUT - only for stationary setup! You cannot group or link entire setup to master dummy and rotate this setup because of disabled axis links!!

Sorry to spoil the fun but, unfortunately, this tutorial is not so great as it seems on first sight. Piston (cylinder001) MUST be mechanically connected with connecting rod (circle001). In this case, connecting rod just “looks” at piston. If you make (something like) this scene and switch to front view, play the animation and you will see that upper end of connecting rod slightly “fly” around piston, it does not move in a straight line as it should. Being linked to smaller dummy, piston itself makes a movement of correct distance but at slightly wrong pace. At 0 and 180 degree positions of crankshaft everything is OK (at right positions) but at all other angles of crankshaft, angle of connecting rod should be greater and therefore piston should be at lower position. I would call this only a “simulation” of the actual rigging of crankshaft, connecting rod and piston. I’m sorry I can’t explain how to make this whole setup right. However, I hope that pointing to those errors can be of some help.

Yes Dear Friend you are right :) and i know it. It's problem for me to. In fact there are other ways to play the simulation. For example rigging bones or you can create formules with wire parameters or other axis locking methods. But they are harder and more complex methods. My method for only visual animation. Watchers can use this link methods for other constraints. i only wanted show turning crank and moving pistons :). This tutorial for understanding link constraints. But not real working true simulation. Sorry for mistakes.

Serkan Kose You don't have to apologize,you made a good tutorial, it's still useful even if it's physically not accurate, yet you can use the reaction controller to match the movement of the piston to the rod If you want to be accurate, you can watch this tutorial, the guy made the piston move with the formula watch?v=-02mLcuNutQ

our job as a 3D artists is to make belivable animation and images not to make micanical parts and make them work as in the real world... thank you for what you said..

Nice tutorial. This is a decent pipeline. I've seen pistons and crankshaft be animated with IK but this seems less taxing to set up

I don't know your scene but i know V engine system is more complex. I didn't try to do it but you can try, - When you are in hierarchy/affect pivot only you can rotate your ucs's direction along cylinder's axis. - Then u must change UCS Location settings from View to Local near the scale command. I'll try about it when i see right result i'll right again.

I'm having trouble with the last part. I am making a V engine, so I can't get the small inner dummy to travel along anything but the global axes.

Thank you for this very good tutorial. I need to rotate a piston 45 degree, but it can't be rotated in this way. Can you make another tutorial for it? Thank you.
@杨淼-m2x8 жыл бұрын
We let the Head`s axes changes 45 degree. In Lock Info, Lock is for local axis. So in Head`s Lock, we can lock x,y to lock z.

Slm. Scriptler her zaman daha hizli ve kolay bu bi gercek. ancak render ates su patlama deprem ruzgar orman kiremit parke korkuluk hersey icin script veya plug in kullanmak yorucu ve uyumsuz kombin olabilir. bu aeada kodlarla aram kotu script yazamiyorum yada bu tur seyler icin script vermu bilmiyorum. bone olayindada benzer baglantilar hileler kullanmak gerekecek sanirim ben dummy tercih ettim ama hali hazirda bone sistemine hakimseniz tabiiki onunlada olur.
