Thank you again for this month. 9:50 This is like part of the Evangelion movie produced by studio khara. Japan uses 3ds max a lot for animation production. Recently, Blender is also using it because of the cost issue. They have a lot of great cartoon render know-how to make 3D animated characters look like 2D.

I don’t understand why people think 3ds max is only for ArchViz, where I come from every animation schools teaches Max and Maya compulsory, I am a 3ds max artist, I stopped using maya after I saw 3ds max modifier stack😊, I love Max and Vray.

Max got neglected for many years, to the point many schools almost solely focused on teaching Houdini and Maya (it's still a more robust tool for character animation for example, let us hope Max catches up in this department), as a result, it got very much replaced in the VFX world. And then, there's Blender - rapidly devleloped, free and getting free advertising all over social media or youtube (no licensing cost for anyone blabbing about it, which leads to pure profit from youtube monetisation). There's been no marketing push for Max whatsoever, it wasn't until tyFlow got released that Max finally got some attention from everybody again. Hence the "none uses it outside of archviz realm" sentiment.

Thank you Eloy! Your 3d max videos are the best and I never missed even one of them for more than 2 years. I can't tell you how much I love them!

The modifier stack of 3ds max is unbeatable for any 3d software. But Autodesk is now not focusing on max because now they are developing Maya for character and revit for archviz so no segment left for 3ds max except game assets creation which is already possible by current features. They made retopology modifier for 3d scanning (new paradigm for modelling).

Thanks to you, I've discovered Will Wallace - subscribed to his channel immediately! The terrain generation coming to tyFlow is... well, it'd be an understatement to say I'm very excited about it!

9:50 is from one of the Evangelion anime movies. Would love to see more information on this! Some great works been done but not many cell shading tutorials in 3ds max and vray.

Eloi, most of the scenes are not for archviz purposes, but, the scenes are buildings and structures. That is exactly the same thing as ArchViz. Just different style of buildings and structures.

My message disappeared Eloi! :D Here is again: The anime, as somebody already said is Japanese anime "Evangelion" recently done by Khara studio, the bittersweet news is that they are trying to move to blender from 2019 seems. Anime has been strong in 3DsMax usage for years thanks to brilliant tools like Pencil+ that is way more than just a non PBR renderer. Has some cool camera deformations, Normal Transfer between objects, Z order altering rendering.... and others. 3DsMax is being used in lots of anime, one of the best seller animes recently "Kimi no Nawa" or "your name" in English title used also 3DsMax for all the background rendering. But for obvious reasons nonPBR looks to realtime more an more so Unity, Unreal and also EEVEE are very attractive to the anime field for obvious reasons. Max has not meaningful news in this area for some time now so I guess is loosing attractiveness there, but the new relation with EPIC brings some light, hope it grows strong! and not only PBR focused. We NEED stylized non pbr too. btw "kimi no nawa" made more box office than the latests Pixar/Disney movies... I guess that means there is a potential market there.

Does anybody have a fix for using Arnold in forest pack I cannot get it to render to save my life? It allegedly isn't compatible with Arnold at the moment.

I want to become a Generalist and make short films and Character Art, weapons, etc.. Is Max the best software? If so what plugins do you recommend. I find Blender unintuitive and boring to use, Cinema4D too expensive, Maya has worse modeling albeit faster thanks to multicut and pie menus, and Max has good modeling but idk anything else it seems like its lacking, any tips?😊

Some of the best generalists I know uses max. Get tyflow (free version its fine) for multiple fx and or scattering. Forest pack its also good for a generalist. But I dont need much more.

Funny how 10 years ago everyone laugh @ Bledner . Mainly the 3Damx users. And now 3Dmax is almost like Blender. Everytime blender has a update the other sotfwares come with it a few mouths later.
