5.3 liter vortec. Common weaknesses are the fuel pump/sender unit at 150,000 miles. The 4l60E transmission at 150,000 miles. Clear coat peel at 15 yrs and older. But very stout overall. Mine gets 14 to 17 mpg.

This is fuggin awesome. I just got a 2002 GMC Yukon XL (Suburban). It came with a 3in lift on 33s. It's currently 33°F here in Dayton, Ohio and my dog and I are sleeping in it for the first time tonight. I have a cushion from my camper we are keeping on, a fleece blanket, the dogs sheet, a sleeping bag, 2 pillows and I'm layered up. You should do more videos with the suburban and stealth campers like it. I need some more ideas. Great video. Keep up the good work. D2M

You know it’s not a bad thing anymore to drop a bit of coin into an older rig. 3K in today’s economy isn’t much considering 50K plus for a new Suburban even used 25K or better give or take. I have a 97 F150 owned it since new I just dropped 4K into that a couple years ago for a new engine. I want a new/newer truck I don’t want to spend the money that’s a choice, but I love to hunt fish and camp that leaves plenty in the budget for that.

Suburbans freakin rule!! I would never put anything bigger than 20x10s with a negative 19 offset on, so with 35" and bigger tires you still have plenty of sidewall protection offroading. ;)

What is the headroom like without the huge wooden bed frame some people have? I want to get a burb for a dual use vehicle and have no interest in some oversized interior furniture. I'd pull the second row entirely (maybe rig up some sort of cover for storage in that foot well?) and just keep my stuff in a duffle in the passenger seat.

Awesome video! What is the interior height light? Could one put a small cot to sit or sleep on, and still have some headspace? I've been wrestling with what vehicle to get for a build, and I've always been in love with Suburbans, but I think I will want a bit o' head space. PS: I was curious if you ever measured that sleeping area. After I typed the above, I got to thinking that the second row could be left up as the seating area and I wouldn't need to worry about the headspace of the cargo area.
