I bought a Badboy Outlaw XP 10 years ago. Full suspension, 32 HP, electric deck adjustment. Still cuts like new. Top Quality commercial mower. Disadvantage of all zerotuns is they don't like steep hills and get stuck easy on wet ground. Mine will cut 4 acres in 2 hours. You get what you pay for.

Why do zero turn mowers don’t like hills? Are the more prone to rollovers? Or just unbalanced? How about front deck zero turn mowers like the grasshopper?
@tomparker9966
@tomparker9966 2 жыл бұрын
@@josem.2909 roll over is not a problem although they will do wheelies. Mowing parallel on steep hills they tend to crab. When they beak loose and start sliding downhill your instinct is to pull back on controls which makes it worse. Overcome instinct and give full forward on low side stick to gain control and turn uphill. Sliding downhill with the wheels spinning in reverse is scary. I love mine and they will cut your mowing time by 1/2 or more and cut down on weed eating.
@tomparker9966
@tomparker9966 2 жыл бұрын
@@josem.2909 The front deck mowers are not true zero turns. Unless you are comparing to the big commercial front decks like the golf courses use they are slower and don't turn as fast. My commercial BadBoy will cut wet grass, cuts clean at 7mph and top speed 13 mph. Blades are 3/8" thick and has hydraulic drive motors and air cooled hydraulic pumps. Residential zeroturns including BadBoys are fine for homeowners but will not hold up for daily usage. Lots of good brands to choose from but you get what you pay for. A good used low hour commercial mower will outlast a new residential for about the same money. I spent 3k on my first John Deere residential ZT only lasted 2 years before the motor wore out. I spent $9000 on the BadBoy new in 2013. It still has the original belts. Try to find one to try before you buy.

This week I bought a Bad Boy MZ Magnum 48" after seven years with a Gravely 42". The Kohler 7000 engine on the Gravely caught fire and would have burned down my garage if I hadn't stopped it outside by chance (the fire started after I stopped it). The fire burned for two hours despite being doused continuously with high-pressure water from an outdoor pump for the first 30 minutes. The flames were ten feet high, consuming everything combustible on the mower. The Kohler engine had been refurbished in January by a dealer, but still smoked more than it should have. It must have been leaking oil that was ignited by a hot muffler. It lasted seven years and might have operated safely for many more if my yard had been a typical residential size of an acre or less, but it wasn't cut out for 3.5 acres. Also, the quality of manufacture is questionable as I was told that motor was made in China when I bought it in 2015. I'm told they're made in the USA now, but I have not been able to verify whether that is true. Anyway, I didn't want another mower with a Kohler engine, so I bought the Bad Boy Magnum because it came with a Kawasaki FR651V engine. It has the solid "whump" sound like a helicopter engine, not the lighter pitch of the Kohler 7000. It's important to match the machine, especially its engine, to the size of the yard you need to cut. You don't want an engine that poses a fire hazard if you cut more acreage than it's really designed for.

Love my $7400 Exmark Radius X 60 inch with Kawasaki engine. We wanted something stronger and more dependable that big box store mowers due to the amount of grass here i have to cut. If i could turn back the clock i would have bought a 72 inch Diesel engine mower but pricing for those today have skyrocketed so this Exmark is doing the job great. If my Exmark dies i will just invest in a large finishing mower for my tractor

I bought a big box brand of riding lawn mower about ten years ago (one company makes several low-quality brands sold only at big box stores for the $2,000 to $3,000 price range). It kept breaking down every week because it used a plastic lift band (about as strong as they use to tie loaves of bread) to lift the deck. An utter piece of garbage of a machine. Typical cost-cutting done by cheapskate manufacturers that market through big box stores, to use plastic instead of metal on a yard machine. After I got rid of that [ ] I bought a Gravely 42" that lasted seven years, and last week I bought a Bad Boy MZ Magnum 48" with Kawasaki engine to cut my 3.5 acres. I've only been using the Bad Boy for a couple days, but am pleased with the cut so far, and the reduction in time it takes to cut; the new 48" vs. the old 42" makes a big difference on a 3.5 acre property.

What do most home owners want? They want well cut grass in dry in wet conditions with nice stripes. Forget all the other addons and discounts between the two. What matters is the deck. The reason to spend extra over the cheaper mower is to get the commercial deck so you can achieve these things. It's worth the extra to move up to the commercial deck IMO.

I think it’s a matter of time. If you put atv tires on you lower end ztm it can climb considerably better than with stock turf tires that get clogged in mud very easily and quickly. So a smaller cheaper unit just takes a little longer. But if you want the speed and power to do it all quickly and in comfort then yes, to me it’s worth it because I do it commercially and average $350-500 an hour. I can cut about an acre in 30 minutes of overgrown weeds and time is money. So I paid for the TRX766i with the 37 hp and tracks. So my 2 ć.

A 2000 or 3000 dollar zero turn mower is not worth the headache I have ran various machines seen various issues Kubota Exmark Hustler Cub Cadet And John Deere. Kubota Cub Cadet Husqvarna And John Deere are brands I strongly suggest Commercial Zero Turns last manu many years. I have one neighbor who bought a bob-cat in 2009 and it had basic wear and tear recently went through a starter and had an oil leak from the transmission he took good care of it still going strong. My Next Door neighbor has a Z Force lz 48 Cub Cadet with a Kawasaki and 48 inch fabricated deck bought new in 2014 only issues it had was the spindles failed and needed to be replaced and recently went through a middle spindle the engine has worked well kawasaki engines are execelent engines. That cub cadet mows 3.5 acres and it is still in use to this day I had a craftsman t1000 Recently put A 12.5 flathead briggs and stratton engine to replace the very tired zongshen craftsman branded enginem it had transmission issues and the deck belt kept jumping off the deck when disengaged and the spindles failed. My toro ss4235 has the right side transmission lose power when hot and the deck is cracking and falling apart. My dads la150 has had the deck rebuilt 3 times with in 130 hours the more expensive john deeres are the ones worth spending they are better built. My point here is if you spend extra money on a commercial mower such as a Kubota Diesel or Husqvarna zero turn the higher end john deere is better than the lower end. John Deeres you will get close to 20 years of service my neighbors bobcat will last another 10 years. Im going to buy a Commercial grade or prosumer Zero Turn My thinking is getting a John Deere Z730R reason is the Kawasaki Engine lights rops that are foldable and more The other makes dont have what the Deere consist of and Deere has the best parts support too. I do plan to get a used husqvarna tractor also fo pulling a cart and other attachments around.

love my $1,500 20 year old 60" lazer Z exmark (used with 800 hours)), Leave it out in the rain for weeks, had to weld patches on the deck to keep grass from flying into my face, and every rut or whole in the yard is felt. The tank fires right up and cuts grass that most of the time I should bush hog it. There are times the grass is so high, can not see me on the mower cutting grass and it still gets the job done, How ever, the higher grass , i have to lift the blade. I would like to upgrade but I know a newer one can not keep up with this beast.

Well what I'm about to say comes from someone who operates a commercial business. Although the altoz has its place (basically a bush hog) let's talk resale value on BOTH mowers. Realistically bad boy has very poor resale value just check your local craigslist or Facebook, consistently bad boy mowers have very poor resale value, a commercial guy will not buy it. I have more thoughts but can't type more lol.

The Altoz is a commercial grade mower, the Bad Boy is a residential mower. Commercial grade anything always had a better resale than residential grade.

Well in my case 3K would get me through 2 or 3 seasons if I were to pay a company to mow my grass so it's not even a possibility and on top of that it would take away one thing I actually enjoy doing. Paying a company to mow your grass is the same as renting an apartment, you pay for years and when it's done and you move, you get nothing for what you paid which is exactly the kind of bs the governments of this world want for all of us, renters for life. "You will own nothing and you'll be happy"...WELL, NOT ME!

@bestplayerhear let's face it....someone created a market for landscapers..... I know the decks are built heavy and good but the engines are run of the mill. There's no way to justify that kind of money....there's a ton of profit taking going on in the industry. An old tenant of mine did this for a living and I remember, after he died, trying to lift one of those commercial push mowers....holy cow...very very heavy

The big 20k mowers will rut up some residential grass. I'd just buy 4 residentials for the price of one 20k mower. residential mowers are easier on the terrain. Also one can have a mower for the different type of situations and back up mowers as well. I own a wright, Toro, gravely, Husqvarna, Honda, craftsman, and Troy built mower. From my experience with the mowers, the tractor style mowers last longer than the zero turn mowers, and less issues. The Gravely has the worst cut of all of them. If I buy another mower it will be a tight turn tractor style. They are set up to do more than Zero turns.

The engine alone on the altoz costs as much as your entire mower, the altoz can cut really tall grass and light brush much like a tractor with a rotary cutter, your mower can't handle any of that, try that and you'll damage your machine. The Altoz is built for several thousand hours of use, the craftsman or really any other homeowner mower is done after 800 to 1000hrs +/-. It's nothing against your mower, as I pointed out these mowers are built with different tasks in mind and the customer who buys an altoz is going to be very different from one who buys a homeowner mower. Obviously you have no use for a 20k mower so it seems obsurd to you, but don't diss it because it has a high price tag it has that for a reason you get what you pay for; nobody in their right mind would buy a cheap homeowner mower for mowing many acres of land with uneven terrain and high grass they would get a tractor and bush hog or the altoz shown here or visa versa buy a 20k mower to mow a 1/2 acre property in suburbia America...

@@jhomrich89 the engine on mine is the Kohler 7000 series and it's considered one of the very best and if I was to replace it with a brand new one $1,700 to $ 2,000 I wouldn't call that cheap by No standards plus it comes with a 3 year unlimited hours warranty not 3 years or 500 hours witch ever comes first the engine is also designed after the Kohler command commercial pro engine and a 5 inch turning radius..so now I'll ask you with all that plus a lot more for $2,700 were is the justification for $17,000 more for the zero turn? This isn't any justification for $17,000 more not even close

There is just soooo many differences between a residential craftsman mower like that and any tier of commercial grade mowers. Based on a commercial engine does not make it a commercial engine that doesnt have a commercial airfilter assembly and the long term durability of that engine isnt going to be the same as Kawasaki FS or even close to a FX motor or any commercial kohler mowers, id love to see a few thousand hours on that motor and see how it holds up. The serviceable transmission on that mower is just a basic hydrostatic tranmission and is slower and less durable than the commercial pump and motor system seeing on commercial Stand on's and ZT's which will see thousand's of hours of service life. Then of course there is just the build quality difference of the frame and deck. the craftsmen just has a basic stamped deck compared to the fabricated decks found on commercial mowers which are around 7 gauge steel. The spindels on commercial grade mowers are much thicker and use much higher quality bearings and metal. The frame on the Commercial ZT is much thicker hence the massive weight difference. You can try to compare a Craftsmen garden tractor to a commercial ZT all you want but at the end of the day they are completly different machines one is built to handle daily brush cutting/mowing for thousands of hours and another is a garden tractor meant to get used a couple hours a week. Your typical Commercial ZT or stand on is built to handle a few thousand hours of commercial grade work those cost around 10k plus or minus a few, the 20k zt is meant for very heavy work and is in a niche area and the price tage reflects that. Commercial landscapers will buy those mowers like they buy the 10k mowers and they will use them and abuse and squeeze every cent they can out of it. You cant understand how the difference's between these mowers unless you have actually seen them in person and used them simple as that... there is no replacing a commercial ZT or stand on when it comes to Durability, performance, and cut quality thats why you dont see commercial landscapers using Lowe's special garden tractor's.
