Brilliant .. Just what I needed to know .. I have problems with graphics lifting round the edges of windows on motor home. They put the graphics on first and then clamp the window in. This has caused the graphics to ripple. My idea is to trim them back round the window. Will practice first. Thanks again :-)

When planning how to trim out around doors or other areas of the vehicle I am always thinking about how I can make the edge of the graphic as secure as possible. I want the edge to be adhered to smooth, clean paint & not have any stretch or tight bends right on the edge. If you are going to wrap film around the edge of a panel, whether it is a 180 degree fold, or a 90 degree bend, make sure you have a good amount of film, (at least 5mm), so that the edge of the film is well past the corner.

I'd like to see how you trim along door edges, etc. How much vinyl should be wrapped around door edges... Great videos!

Great video. Just a quick question to see how you would deal with a specific situation. I see in the above post you recommend to leave 5 - 10mm overlap when wrapping a door to wrap the vinyl over the edge. Although how would you deal with a hard curve / 90 degree angel on the door when wrapping the film around it? Thanks,

As you can imagine, wraps are typically only 5-6 mil thick so the "working" room for this method is extremely fine. not deep enough and you'll tear the wrap. too deep and you'll nick the paint. As an installer I would never use this method without laying down 1/4" painters tapeof masking tape underneath I would lay down 3M Blue Plastic Fine Line Tape #06404 as safe buffer for the cut. Nevertheless, nowadays on-paint blade cuts have been obsoleted with filament cutting tape.

what would be the best technique for folding around sharp corners such as the points towards the rear of the bonnet?

I'm attempting to apply two different colored vinyls that will meet on an edge and I would like there to be a clean line along the edge, any advice? If I simply lay the two up to the edge there is the possibility of an unsightly gap. But I can't overlap the edge because you would see where one piece ends underneath the other. Does this mean that I will have to wrap the entire panel in one color first and then come back and apply a second color over half of that? Would I then run a line of knifless tape along the edge and cut it that way to achieve a clean cut, or some other method? Thanks

Can't you use a plastic razor blade made to cut vinyl for this job? Just saying.

I see someone else mentioned it below too. Please always get in the habit of retracting the blade before you start pulling on vinyl or application tape. I have a scar to prove that pulling vinyl or app. tape with an X-Acto knife exposed is a very BAD idea.

Those Wrap Shops "pros" slice and die the wraps like its nothing until you look closer and they sliced through your paint. Then they play stupid.

@@oh5148 If knifeless tape is too expensive, you should NOT be doing vehicle wraps in any sense. Spend the money and do it right. I would hope this technique would ONLY be used if you had to remove a piece after the fact as a last resort.
