This is not a complaint or gripe. I have many close firefighter friends and I give them heck for this as well. The guy on the roof, please put your SCBA on and all your protective gear. I know its cumbersome, I've been in it, but it only takes one instance and you and your families lives are changed forever. Please all you folks that are firefighters, wear your gear. Saving lives and property are important but all of you going home safe at the end of your shift is the 1st priority. Support all of you 100% in what you do, make it home.

Our volunteer engine company was lucky that our captain was a lineman with the power company, so he was needed often to shut power off of a burning structure.

So sad that PP&L refused to cut the power in the beginning of the fire causing it to be virtually un fightable causing the fire to get very out of control very fast , as well as risking every firefighters life on scene . PP&L needs to be sued out of business and the managers responsible for the decision to continue to bur the properties should all be placed in jail if not for their crimes , then for their protection . UGI did this some years ago when they blew up a city block there because they refused to fix a problem reported over and over again . Time to hold these thieving utilities responsible for their crimes .

you can pull the meter for the building but in this case they were calling for the power company to drop the grid- well - that could be a few thousand people at a minimum since there is not a line truck on scene - so no one is able to just drop the line to the building. once the power is shut off then the line truck needs to go to the station to turn it back on ( hopefully that goes on without difficulty) - oh you still have to take care of the burnt lines to the fire ... so i don't know- 4- 8 hours without power to those few thousand people or more...
@DaveCornuttАй бұрын
Seems like if that was what was needed, they should have been able to do that remotely... they presumably have SCADA these days. Shut off the neighborhood first, get someone out there to drop the lines that need dropping, and then you can turn the rest of the neighborhood back on.
@praack4563Ай бұрын
@@DaveCornutt my knowledge on the build-out of SCADA in Allentown is limited. i don't know if they are 100% SCADA pr still hybrid Scada/Analog. unless there is a press release from the utility on this incident we'll probably never know the answer as to why.

Its time for criminal charges to be filed for all responsible at the power company. Make an example of them. This blatant criminal incompetence is out of hand all across the country! Stay strong brothers and sisters from a 20 year Massachusetts active Firefighter 💪🍀

"6 homes burn ..." Gee I wonder why ... If the U.S. wasn't so addicted to extreme capitalism where builders were allowed to write the codes, attached units would not be allowed unless builders included substantive fire walls between those units.

So it is better to be like LA and have extreme sprawl, chewing up more land? Or like in the suburban townships? I thought liberals were all about land preservation? As soon as a developer wants to build high density housing out in the burbs the hypocrite NIMBY people come out. This housing stock has probably been around for 100 years so I really don't think codes have anything to do with this. A criminal lit this fire. Blame goes to him.

All the shouting and yelling shouldn't be happening at a fire scene , if the men are properly trained theynallnknow.exactly. what they are supposed to do long before they arrive at a fire , unfortunately most paid departments use most of their training time on EMS calls and very little on firefighting , and many volunteer departments just don't have the necessary skills needed to be a firefighter . I was assistant chief for 20 years .n the volunteer department I was with , we required everyone to be certified by the state of Florida as a firefighter /EMT and that included taking all the necessary college courses for that degree , they were of course paid for by the department , during my career I accumulated over 3,000 hours of training . When a departments personnel are properly trained there's no need for screaming and yelling .
@RabbahDocRonaАй бұрын
I agree. The comms discipline was completely lacking
@BobBourgeois-u7h24 күн бұрын
Due respect chief, I think it's an overstatement to say that properly trained firefighters will know exactly what they are supposed to do long before they arrive. Lot's of decisions to be made on scene.
