3rd Ball Forehand Attack - eBaTT Tutorial P2 -15th April 2019
The Exercise:
Forehand 3rd Ball attack off a backspin ball focusing on technique, timing, placement, and deception. Long Push, A relatively simple strong to execute but hard to deliver at a high level consistently.
The Aim:
1. To develop the stroke technically
2. Develop timing and contact point on the ball
3. Develop placement and execution
4. Timing point, when to connect with the ball in flight as soon as it leaves the table.
How it's done:
1. Twist your waist, bring the arm back and down towards the ground
2. For speed, take the ball early, for power take the ball top of the bounce and for spin take the ball late
3. The technique, try to bring your none playing shoulder in so it makes it hard to read in which direction you are going.

cooool! good explanation for mine students about "why do you need always stay low, and have a good foot work? because this allows you to do Topspin at any moment! And second good thing is about where do we ned aim the topspin. A am always target topspins far from the opponent, ant the tip about opposite side of the racket position is really smart :)

Another great video. I love the level of detail in your videos. In this one , I personally found the extension of the arm on the backswing, loading the leg, the forearm snap and the rotation of the shoulder for deception particular useful for my game. Many thanks.

Another gr8 vid Eli. For me it's still hard to see how much (back)spin is actually on the ball, so for me not yet easy to decide were to hit the ball as you explained, especially between heavy and medium backspin.

Thank you again. I have been playing three years at 61 years old now and I am about a 1750 level player and this is exactly what I have been wrestling with. So we first decifer what spin is on the ball and how much. It seems that if I see a float ball I should not start at my knee level because this makes it challenging to get the angle you show for this spin in this video (especailly if you take the ball early or at the top of the bounce). Should we start from a higher point than the knee so we can get near the top of the ball to handle float spin? Then definitely start at the knee for heavy spin. Then somewhere in the middle of these two points for medium backspin. If that is true then we would start waist high for low spinny topspin. I guess my question is : Is there is an ideal place to take the blade back depending on the spin. Lower for heavy backspin and much higher for heavy topspin. Or do we always start just above and behind the knee? edited three days later below.... I watched the video a couple more times and I see now that you have show us the blade angle at impact for each speed/volume of backspin You also demonstrated that the angle of attack is the same as the blade angle at impact. So you actually it seems you answered my question. Once you determine the contact point the blade angle and swing path and start point are set. My next thought is that the contact point also depends on how hard you are hitting the ball as the contact point would be lower (and naturally a bit more open) to the degree the ball is struck softer because the backspin has not been neutralized as much by the greater force of a fast loop. I beleive this video is oriented towards fast loops so softer shots would have would have a contact point lower than the contact points for a fast loop. Overall I like the fact that the contact point determines the blade angle and the blade angle determeines the stoke path to the ball.

DEAR COACH, first of all highly appreciate your concern about answering and affection for us . Regarding my question below , if I put e.g 1000 Revolutions per min on a backspin server , and a nice short push offered on return, shall I not be dealing with more backspin on third ball , compared to less backspin like e.g 500 rev and same short push offered, that's what I meant to say that if u do heavy backspin serve , u may get to deal a different thrd ball attack even if the push by receiver is same.

i was hoping you'd cover 2 more things 1. how to serve (not long) SO THAT the opponent receive would tend to be long enough to start attack/looping 2. how to start looping with or without spin. The "fake" loop is super useful at non-pro levels. Blocking it go straight into the net when you expect top spin. Sure it's just "lifting" the ball for a fake loop, but how do you execute a lift so good that it looks like a loop? I have seen ppl do it accidentally sometimes but never on purpose, except CNT's Wang Manyu who's been doing it on purpose with backhand opening loop against Chen Meng. And even Chen Meng blocks all of them to the net. Not easy to read even by pros. Us amateurs MUST learn that!

@@ebatt8803 see this here : kzbin.info/www/bejne/epDUha2OjtCFf6M at 4:50 of this vid (the link should get you there exactly), it's a FAKE backhand spiny loop. Wang Manyu did this MANY times, forehand also, against Chen Meng. I only included this 1 example but she did many times. And Chen Meng hit to net ALMOST ALL of them. It's a real useful skill to switch up to, sometimes even use exclusively as opponents may not be able to adjust to it AT ALL

1. Do YOU see the moment your racket contacts the ball? Do one REALLY sees the ball "glued" to the racket at this moment? 2. You say, you are not brilliant at math. Nevertheless, the first to angles you show are 60 and 45. The question is: "how did they become automatic for you"? Just "multi-ball " method? Thousands of 60 degrees, then thousands of 45? 3. Once you hit the ball, do you know in advance the trajectory of the ball. Its height over the net, its length or it is just the matter of chance? When I do it, I am always surprised that the ball does not go out or in the net (when and if, the ball does not go out or in the net). Even if it happens quite regularly. But I do not have a feeling of controlling the trajectory of the ball. I speak about the attack of the ball with under-spin. When the racket go simply UP. In this case, I DO NOT UNDERSTAND how I can control its lateral position. Thanks in advance
