Thanks Peter to share this video. I have a toyota helix 98 2.7litre petrol pickup. It's running good but fuel mileage is very poor. Could you please suggest what parts I should check First. Do these 2.7 efi system have a oxygen sensor.

I believe it has two. One in the intake (the plug you take off in this video). The other is post-catalytic converter. How rough is it running though? Does it do so only when cold or warm as well? Is it blowing black smoke (unburnt fuel) and does the exhaust smell 'like gasoline'? Usually if an O2 sensor is gone it'll throw an error and the check engine light will come on. The fix I show here costs nothing and is very common problem on higher mileage vehicles. It's also an easy thing to try. The problem threw no error codes at all. When the valve got completely seized the mileage tell was very noticeable (went up from ~12L per 100km around town to 16+. This was when it finally 'stuck' as a result of coking up, luckily for me in a half open position so everything still ran to get me home, it just unnecessarily used more fuel. The only other time I've had really rough idle was when the vacuum tube came off the EGR. It sounded like I had stage two cams at idle. Haha. Very lumpy. It didn't affect mileage though noticeably. Popped the tube back on and bingo, back to normal.

I got the same 1999 lux mines got like a miss in the engine in idle and taking off if I’m below 2,000rpm any ideas ?

I’d bet on spark. Check your plugs aren’t fouled and replace them if necessary. Also check your high tension leads, particularly that they’re not cracked near the boot (any oil contamination perishes the rubber). It can be quite hard to spot. Misting water at night can help see any errant sparks from the leads themselves or pulling plugs one by one and holding close to the block can expose insulation cracks. Failing that I’d check coils packs. In this order I'd also check the fuel filter, fuel pressure, fuel regulator and fuel pump strainer (a good quick test is to blow air back into the tank via the fuel line, if it clears for awhile but the symptom comes back then you probably have crud in your tank and need to drain and clean it), and fuel pump function.
