Changing DNS servers can speed up the amount of time it takes to resolve a domain name, but it won't speed up your overall internet connection. For example, you won't see an improvement in average download speeds for streaming content or downloading large files.

Always interested in playing around with different things. Had the Google DNS, then reverted to my ISP ones, the speed test was higher with ISP then these but this produced a lower speed (Not by much granted and the Malware protection could be useful so will test for a bit

If you have both a 5 and a 2.4 network, can you do this to the 2.4 and leave the 5, or vice versa, thereby creating two networks to use?

no, only one network is connected at a time, to connect to both at the same time you would need to bind the two connections together, turning them into a single connection over two routes, this is possible in networking but I doubt a firestick can do it as I do not think it can run at both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz simultaniusly

I made the changes on two Fire Sticks. The one closest to the router was: 214.23 before and 221.09 after. The one down stairs at the far end of the house was: 114.13 before and 141.41 after. So I feel it was an improvement, I guess I'll keep it. If I decide to go back to the original settings when I forget my Internet and then reconnect does that go back to my original DNS settings? I hope so because I didn't write those down. Thanks.

Hi speed increased but something squiffy happened lol done this on firestick upstairs last night it worked speeds over 250 came down this morning to do the downstairs firestick and checked speed without changing anything and got speeds well over 250 it changed on both sticks just by changing it on 1 !

Made no difference to me, but the limit is really my Internet speed (BT Fibre 1) rather than the WiFi. However using alternative DNS can help resolving speed so can improve the "feel" of the Internet connection. 🙂

your landlord can see all your traffic, you might want a VPN if you do not want them to see which websites you visit, on their router it shows a list of domains with the most traffic....

I have a 1000Mbps internet. I bought a new TP link Wifi 6E router (6 external antenas) and my fire TV Stick 4K Max in 5Ghz and 6Ghz get to 430Mbps. The port of the Fire TV Stick is micro Usb 2.0 so it's limited to 480mbps (real max speed via a 1Gb USB ethernet adapter is 330Mbps). My Hisense UK8 Tv in Wifi get to 540-600mbps. Because the ethernet port of the tv and many devices are limited to 100Mbps (92Mbps), and my Tv has a USB 3.0 port i bought a 1Gb Usb -A 3.0 ethernet adapter and now via the 1Gb ethernet adapter i get 919Mbps speed. So is you are limited by the device USB port (2.0) or compatibility is better to buy a good Wifi router with external antenas.

if the physical connection between your location and the new DNS server breaks you will have no DNS resolution, this has happened to me when optic fibre cables are broken, local addresses work but international ones did not

THIS DOES NOT WORK if you are using a VPN. The whole idea of using a VPN is so that your ISP does not ban you for hosting 3rd party applications on your firestick WHICH MOST US CARRIERS WILL EVENTUALLY DO! This means you can enter all the 3rd part DNS settings you want and nothing is going to speed up your WIFI because your using a damn VPN. So if your in this boat dont follow this tutorial cause you aint going to be surfing any faster. Maybe the OP should have mentioned this and that in the UK the ISPS dont care?????
