i think its a bit of the parents fault for not using using parental controls and mostly the kids fault for watching his father use the password. think apple should give him about 1/4 to 1/2 of the price the kid did. im so suprised.

I don't think this occurrence was anyone's fault. The kid didn't know what he was doing, the dad had no clue that anything was going on, and didn't even give the password to the son on purpose, and it's definitely not iTunes' fault that this child spent £4000. If you were to place blame though, it would go on the father for not properly teaching his kid about money and for being careless when typing his password.

And sometimes ... it really is the kids' fault. I think that Apple should have flagged the transaction and called the dad up to let him know what was going on. Banks do that with strange or over the top transactions just to be safe -- and isn't that what companies *ought* to be -- safe and secure?

This isn't the first time a parent wound up with a massive bill from their kid playing a mobile game. The first incident I remember was from a Smurf game. It's mostly the parent's fault for not monitoring the situation, but I also feel like Apple should have a better system in place to keep it from happening. Like maybe have it so that certain app purchases over a certain amount require an extra confirmation step that's on by default, but can be turned off in the settings.
