Hi Knowledge Gate, Hi Sanchit. First of all, thank You so much for These Videos. I am new to this Community and I am very glad to learn from You. My Question to You and the Community is: Can we say for Example 1, that the second Dependency is not in third Normalform because A is not A Candidate Key ? I guess DE as Non-Prime Attributes have to rely on a CK and not a part of Prime-Attributes (as here in A). Right ?
@anshgyl7 жыл бұрын
Yes absolutely right the dependency "A --> DE" is a partial dependency as "A" is a part of the candidate key and not the whole candidate key. Therefore it is not in 2NF, hence it can't be in 3NF.

Given R(ABCD) and AB → C ; ABD → C ; ABC → D ; AC → D which the highest possible normal form for the above relation ?
@dheervaryani58737 жыл бұрын
Arup Dey 3nf is the answer?
@warunparker40616 жыл бұрын
AB is the candidate key and now if we check 1) It's not in BCNF because AC is not a super key 2) it's not in 3NF because first three fd no problem but last one AC here it's not a candidate key or a super key. So check RHS is that a prime attribute? (part of candidate key!?) Nooo D isn't. Therefore it's not in 3NF 3) and also AC->D D depends on A. Therfore Partial dependency therefore not even in 2NF Answer 1NF
@asitbiswas12424 жыл бұрын
@@warunparker4061 till the 2nd point that is all right. But in the 3 rd one As AB is the candidate key so in case of 2 NF in left hand side there must be a proper subset of candidate key. As AC is not a proper sub set of AB thats why it will be of 2 NF. So the highest possible Normal Form will be 2 NF.

In the bottom-up approach, since, we have checked for BCNF before, and we found out that alpha is not a key, we then went on to check 3NF, so instead of checking if alpha is a key (which we already figured that it's not), we can directly prove beta to be a prime attribute, right? That would save time.

sir, i watched all your dbms videos from part 01 to part 16. your each and every video is quite simple and easy to understand. but in this video i have a small confusion in 3nf explanation. sir, is video se pehle ki jitni bhi videos hai usme aapne ye bataya hai ki koi table 3nf mein tab hi hogi jab wo 2nf ki sari condition ko satisfy kar rahi hogi aur usme transitive dependency (when a non prime attribute depend upon another non prime attribute) nahi hogi aur agar transitive dependency hogi to wo table 3nf mein nahi hogi. lekin sir is video mein jab aap first question ke A->DE mein 3nf check kr rhe hai tab A->DE mein transitive dependency to hai hi nahi kyunki DE bhale hi non prime attribute hai par A to prime attribute hai jiska matlab hua DE (non prime attribute) depend upon A (prime attribute). to sir mera question ye hai ki A->DE ko kis wajah se 3nf mein nahi rakha gaya hai ?
@anshgyl7 жыл бұрын
A --> DE ko 3NF me isliye nahi rakha qki woh toh 2NF me bhi nahi hai. 2NF ki condition hoti hai ki har NON-PRIME complete candidate key pe depend kare uske kisi part pe nahi, par yahan pe "DE" sirf "A" pe dependent hai, jabki 2NF me hone ke liye usse complete candidate key "AB" par dependent hona chahiye tha. Isliye hum isko 3NF me nahi rakh sakte.
